Non-fixed scatterers and their effects on MIMO multicarrier fading communication channels

    , Article 50th Annual IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, GLOBECOM 2007, Washington, DC, 26 November 2007 through 30 November 2007 ; December , 2007 , Pages 3765-3769 ; 1424410436 (ISBN); 9781424410439 (ISBN) Saligheh Rad, H ; Gazor, S ; Shariatpanahi, P ; Sharif University of Technology
There are two types of scatterers in a multipath propagation environment: fixed and non-fixed scatterers. Fixed scatterers like buildings, mountains and tree stems do not move, while non-fixed (moving) scatterers like cars, people and tree leaves move from their initial positions. In addition to different movements of the mobile station (MS) that cause different kinds of Doppler fading, movements of non-fixed scatterers are also anticipated to generate other kinds of fading/correlation. This fading changes depend on the type of the propagation environment and the type of movements of local surrounding scatterers. In this paper we characterize these effects in terms of temporal correlations....

In this paper the new and improvement approach is suggested for realization of a HF receiver without using equalizer. This approach is based on implementing considerations suggested by [1]. In our approach an HF modem without using equalizer implemented which can communicate over several hundred bits per second with very low bits error rate. This improvement was obtained by changing the framing and the coding structures which has been suggested by [1] and by using the symbol time recovery approach which is proposed by [2]. In this paper, the symbol time recovery approach generalized for multipath fading channels. We implemented our approach on Digital Signal Processor named TMS320F2811....

    , Article International Conference on Advanced Communication Technology, ICACT, 7 February 2010 through 10 February 2010 ; Volume 2 , February , 2010 , Pages 951-955 ; 17389445 (ISSN) ; 9788955191455 (ISBN) Samsami Khodadad, F ; Ganji, F ; Safaei, A ; Samsami Khodadad, F ; Sharif University of Technology
In this paper an efficient method is proposed for blind detection of multiuser spread spectrum signal and pseudo noise (PN) length estimation in downlink scenario. This method is based on fluctuating observation of second order statistic (SOS) estimator of received signal; estimating length of spreading code with no need to primary information based on observing second order peaks of correlation estimator is presented. In low SNR, the fading multipath phenomenon especially in length of small codes leads to problem in detecting place of correlation estimator peaks. In this paper besides expanding blind estimation to multiuser environment, by using searching method in updating the length of...

In this paper, the performances of both uncoded and coded multiple access TH-UWB systems, introduced in [1-3] in multipath Rayleigh fading channels, are evaluated. The receiver is a selective diversity combining receiver, known as SRake. Based on a Gaussian distribution assumption for the multiple access interference at the output of the SRake receiver and by using a virtual branch technique, as introduced in [4,5], the bit error rates for uncoded and coded schemes are derived. The performance analysis shows that the effective order of diversity achieved by the coded scheme is the product of the number of branches of the SRake receiver and the Hamming distance of the code applied....

, Article 4th ACM Workshop on Security of ad hoc and Sensor Networks, SASN 2006. A workshop held in conjuction with the 13th ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security, CCS'06, Alexandria, VA, 30 October 2006 through 30 October 2006 ; 2006 , Pages 91-100 ; 1595935541 (ISBN); 9781595935540 (ISBN) Kefayati, M ; Rabiee, H. This paper introduces Adaptive Path Selection and Loading (APSL) as a multi-path data transmission scheme for mitigating the effects of misbehaving nodes in mobile ad-hoc networks. In APSL, misbehavior resilience is achieved by adaptively loading Reed-Solomon (RS) coded data into multiple node-disjoint paths. In order to maximize packet delivery ratio, paths are loaded according to Path State Information (PSI) which dynamically estimates the availability and stability of each path. We evaluated APSL through simulation in terms of packet delivery ratio, normalized average end-to-end delay and overhead. APSL can achieve more than 90% packet delivery ratio. Compared to adaptive single path and...

The smart antenna technique as a method of improving the physical layer performance of OFDM WLANs is studied. For this purpose, a comparison of the smart antenna architectures for IEEE802.11a WLAN system using pre-FFT and post-FFT array processing with different parameters is represented. Simulations are performed on a new Simulink model for IEEE802.11a system using a spatio-temporal channel modeling which is based on the measured wideband channels in the 5GHz band. Raw bit-error-rate performance for QPSK/16QAM modulations at LOS and NLOS channel scenarios are evaluated and compared. © 2005 IEEE

A practical approach for coherent signal surveillance and blind parameter assessment in asynchoronous DS-CDMA systems in multipath channel

    , Article Proceedings - 2010 18th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2010, 11 May 2010 through 13 May 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 305-310 ; 9781424467600 (ISBN) Samsami Khodadad, F ; Ganji, F ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
A novel, robust and practical method for active user enumeration in asynchronous CDMA in multipath channel condition is proposed in this paper. Most of the previous works do not consider the fact that in practical case, user's signals with the help of receiver arrive asynchronously. The proposed method can be used practically in blind multi-user detection such as eavesdropping; moreover, the method is based on information theory criteria which outperform other methods. Minimum description length (MDL) has better performance than all other information criteria used in such scenarios. Unlike most of the pervious works, we do not exploit array antenna to gather necessary data of the users....

This paper presents two new space time block codes (STBCs) with quasi orthogonal structure for an open loop multi-input single-output (MISO) systems. These two codes have been designed to transmit from three or four antennas at the transmitter and be given to one antenna at the receiver. In this paper first, the proposed codes are introduced and their structures are investigated. This is followed by the demonstration of how the decoder decodes half of transmitted symbols independent of the other half. The last part of this paper discusses the simulation results, makes performance comparison against other popular approaches and concludes that the proposed solutions offer superiority

Error performance analysis for generalized orthogonal frequency division multiplexing

    , Article Computers and Electrical Engineering ; Volume 61 , 2017 , Pages 139-150 ; 00457906 (ISSN) Abbaszadeh, M. H ; Khalaj, B. H ; Haghbin, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM) is a cyclic filtered multicarrier modulation that may be employed for many new wireless applications. However, due to its non-orthogonal structure, a trade-off between the complexity and error performance should be considered in the design of GFDM receivers. This study proposes an orthogonal cyclic filtered multicarrier modulation called Generalized Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (GOFDM), which is based on the cyclic Perfect Reconstruction-Quadrature Mirror Filter (PR-QMF) bank. We first derive the frequency domain matrix descriptions for GOFDM linear receivers based on which, the impact of PR-QMF bank on the GOFDM error...

Particle filtering-based low-elevation target tracking with multipath interference over the ocean surface

As radar signals propagate above the ocean surface to determine the trajectory of a target, the signals that are reflected directly from the target arrive at the receiver along with indirect signals reflected from the ocean surface. These unwanted signals must be properly filtered; otherwise, their interference may mislead the signal receiver and significantly degrade the tracking performance of the radar. To this end, we propose a low-elevation target tracking mechanism considering the specular and diffuse reflection effects of multipath propagation over the ocean surface simultaneously. The proposed mechanism consists of a state-space model and a particle filtering algorithm and promises...

Network-adaptive multipath video delivery over wireless multimedia sensor networks based on packet and path priority scheduling

    , Article Proceedings - 2010 International Conference on Broadband, Wireless Computing Communication and Applications, BWCCA 2010, 4 November 2010 through 6 November 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 351-356 ; 9780769542362 (ISBN) Rastegar Lari, A ; Akbari, B ; Sharif University of Technology
In this paper we investigate multi-path transmission of video over Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs). Our objective is to provide a transmission mechanism to improve the video quality perceived at the receiver while considering energy, bandwidth and delay constraints of the network. Our approach is based on packet and path priority scheduling in multipath video transmission over WMSN. Video packets are classified according to their types and more important packets are transmitted through paths with better conditions. Path conditions are evaluated by a score mechanism using variant parameters such as free buffer size, energy, hop count and packet loss. Since path conditions are...
