    , Article BioNanoScience ; Vol. 4, issue. 1 , 2014 , pp. 71-77 ; ISSN: 21911630 Janfaza, S ; Molaeirad, A ; Mohamadpour, R ; Khayati, M ; Mehrvand, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Bacteriorhodopsin is a heptahelical protein found in the purple membrane of Halobacterium salinarum. The performance of bacteriorhodopsin was evaluated as a sensitizer in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Bacteriorhodopsin was efficiently immobilized on the titanium dioxide nanoparticles and then tested for its ability to convert solar radiation to electricity. The photovoltaic performance of DSSC based on the bacteriorhodopsin sensitizer has been examined. Under AM1.5 irradiation, a short-circuit current of 0.28 mA cm−2, open-circuit voltages of 0.51 V, fill factor of 0.62, and an overall energy conversion efficiency of 0.09 % are achieved employing platinum as a counter electrode. Carbon...

Surface modification of carbon steel by ZnO-graphene nano-hybrid thin film

    Abstract
Application of corrosion resistant coatings is one of the most widely used means of protecting steel. Zinc coated (galvanize) steel, is well known for galvanic protection of steel substrates and nowadays, particular attention has been paid to the coupling of graphene oxide (GO) with metallic materials, in order to lessen corrosion rate. In this research, an isopropanol supercritical reducing environment prepared to make zinc ions bond directly with graphene oxides, to form a button shape hybrids of ZnO-Graphene (ZnOG). The hybridized bonding between zinc and graphene oxide is confirmed by Fourier Transform Infra-Red analysis. And the morphology revealed, using a Field Emission Scanning...

Zinc-stearate-layered hydroxide nanohybrid material as a precursor to produce carbon nanoparticles

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 509, Issue 5 , February , 2011 , Pages 2441-2444 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Ghotbi, M. Y ; Bagheri, N ; Sadrnezhaad, S.K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Zinc-stearate-layered hydroxide nanohybrid was prepared using stearate anion as an organic guest, and zinc layered hydroxide nitrate, as a layered inorganic host by the ion-exchange method. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns and Fourier transform infrared results indicated that the stearate anion was actually intercalated into the interlayer of zinc layered hydroxide nitrate and confirmed the formation of the host-guest nanohybrid material. Also, surface properties data showed that the intercalation process has changed the porosity for the as-prepared nanohybrid material in comparison with that of the parent material, zinc hydroxide nitrate. The nanohybrid material was heat-treated at 600 °C...

Enhanced adsorption removal performance of UiO-66 by rational hybridization with nanodiamond

    Abstract
In the present work, a series of nanohybrids based on UiO-66 as a physicochemical stable metal-organic framework (MOF) and different amounts of thermally oxidized nanodiamond (OND) (0.5–10 wt%) were synthesized and used as adsorbents for anionic (methyl red, MR, and methyl orange, MO) and cationic (malachite green, MG, and methylene blue, MB) dyes from contaminated water in single and binary dye solutions. The single adsorbents and their nanohybrids were characterized by FESEM, FTIR, XRD,TGA, BET, and zeta potential measurements. The experimental adsorption results displayed that the synthesized nanohybrids presented higher adsorption capacity for anionic dyes compared to cationic dyes in...

Heterostructured TiO2/SiO2/γ-Fe2O3/rGO coating with highly efficient visible-light-induced self-cleaning properties for metallic artifacts

    , Article ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces ; Volume 12, Issue 26 , 3 June , 2020 , Pages 29671-29683 Mokhtarifar, M ; Kaveh, R ; Bagherzadeh, M ; Lucotti, A ; Pedeferri, M ; Diamanti, M. V ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A novel nanohybrid composite of TiO2, SiO2, γ-Fe2O3, and reduced graphene oxide (TiO2@Si:Fe:rGO) is fabricated by the sol-gel method. The properties of the coated film were examined by structural and self-cleaning analyses using simulated discoloration/soiling and roofing tests. The fabricated transparent TiO2@Si:Fe:rGO composite showed excellent photoactivity and wettability, behaving well in self-cleaning applications. The addition of SiO2 improved the crystalline structure and surface hydroxylation of TiO2 nanoparticles. γ-Fe2O3 decreased the recombination rate of e-/h+ pairs, and significantly improved photocatalytic activity under visible light. Moreover, rGO sheets as excellent...

Large pore volume mesoporous copper particles and scaffold microporous carbon material obtained from an inorganic-organic nanohybrid material, copper-succinate-layered hydroxide

    , Article Journal of Colloid and Interface Science ; Volume 362, Issue 1 , 2011 , Pages 89-93 ; 00219797 (ISSN) Ghotbi, M. Y ; Bagheri, N ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Copper-succinate-layered hydroxide (CSLH), a new nanohybrid material, was synthesized as an inorganic-organic nanohybrid, in which organic moiety was intercalated between the layers of a single cation layered material, copper hydroxide nitrate. Microporous scaffold carbon material was obtained by thermal decomposition of the nanohybrid at 500°C under argon atmosphere followed by acid washing process. Furthermore, the heat-treated product of the nanohybrid at 600°C was ultrafine mesoporous metallic copper particles. The results of this study confirmed the great potential of CSLH to produce the carbon material with large surface area (580m2/g) and high pore volume copper powder (2.04cm3/g)

Fabrication and evaluation of bioresorbable scaffolds for interventional cardiology application with sufficient drug release

    Abstract
Objective(s): Bioresorbable scaffolds have been advocated as the new generation in interventional cardiology because they could provide temporary scaffolds and then disappear with resorption. Although, the available stents in clinical trials exhibited biosafety, efficacy, no death, and no apparent thrombosis, Mg-substrate degradation on drug release has not been investigated. Materials and Methods: Therefore, more research has been needed to legitimize the replacement of current stents with Mg-based stents. UV-Vis spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), pH measurement, H2 evolution, and corrosion tests determined the change in hybrid properties and...
