    Abstract
Removal of aromatic compounds from fuel is an essential requirement in new environmental policies. In the present study, poly(vinyl alcohol)/graphene oxide (GO) mixed matrix membranes were prepared and applied to the separation of toluene from iso-octane by pervaporation, considering the similarity and interaction between graphene and aromatics. The effects of crosslinking and GO content on separation efficiency have been investigated in detail. Owing to the high affinity of GO with toluene through s and π bonds, the selectivity of the membranes was increased by incorporating a low amount of GO. The results also indicated that noncrosslinked membranes have higher selectivity and permeation...

Transient response of porous FG nanoplates subjected to various pulse loads based on nonlocal stress-strain gradient theory

    Abstract
Based on nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT), transient behavior of a porous functionally graded (FG) nanoplate due to various impulse loads has been studied. The porous nanoplate has evenly and unevenly distributed pores inside its material structure. Impulse point loads are considered to be rectangular, triangular and sinusoidal types. These impulse loads lead to transient vibration of the nanoplate which is not studied before. NSGT introduces a nonlocal coefficient together with a strain gradient coefficient to characterize small size influences due to non-uniform stress and strain fields. Galerkin's approach has been performed to solve the governing equations and also inverse Laplace...

Solid state preparation and photocatalytic activity of bismuth oxybromide nanoplates

    , Article Research on Chemical Intermediates ; Volume 42, Issue 3 , 2016 , Pages 2429-2447 ; 09226168 (ISSN) Bijanzad, K ; Tadjarodi, A ; Akhavan, O ; Moghaddasi Khiavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A mechanochemical method was applied to prepare bismuth oxybromide (BiOBr) nanoplates using bismuth nitrate pentahydrate and potassium bromide for 15 (A15), 30 (A30) and 60 (A60) minutes. Scanning electron microscopy studies showed that all the products were comprised of nanoplates. Aggregated nanoplates along with microblocks were observed for A15 and A30 and the entire morphology was not homogenous. The morphology of A60 was uniform and consisted of thin and isolated nanoplates. Evaluation of the X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the purity and crystallinity of the products improved by increasing the milling time. The energy dispersive X-ray analysis confirmed the high purity of the...

Thermo-mechanical vibration of orthotropic cantilever and propped cantilever nanoplate using generalized differential quadrature method

    , Article Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures ; Volume 24, Issue 8 , 2017 , Pages 636-646 ; 15376494 (ISSN) Ghadiri, M ; Shafiei, N ; Alavi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this article, the vibration frequency of an orthotropic nanoplate under the effect of temperature change is investigated. Using nonlocal elasticity theory, governing equations are derived. Based on the generalized differential quadrature method for cantilever and propped cantilever boundary conditions, the frequencies of orthotropic nanoplates are considered and the obtained results are compared with valid reported results in the literature. The effects of temperature variation, small scale, different boundary conditions, aspect ratio, and length on natural nondimensional frequencies are studied. The present analysis is applicable for the design of rotating and nonrotating nano-devices...

In-plane and out-of-plane waves in nanoplates immersed in bidirectional magnetic fields

    Abstract
Prediction of the characteristics of both in-plane and out-of-plane elastic waves within conducting nanoplates in the presence of bidirectionally in-plane magnetic fields is of interest. Using Lorentz's formulas and nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen, the nonlocal elastic version of the equations of motion is obtained. The frequencies as well as the corresponding phase and group velocities pertinent to the in-plane and out-of-plane waves are analytically evaluated. The roles of the strength of in-plane magnetic field, wavenumber, wave direction, nanoplate's thickness, and small-scale parameter on characteristics of waves are discussed. The obtained results show that the in-plane...
