Investigation of synergistic effect of nano sized Ag/TiO2 particles on antibacterial, physical and mechanical properties of UV-curable clear coatings by experimental design

    , Article Progress in Organic Coatings ; Vol. 77, issue. 2 , February , 2014 , pp. 502-511 ; ISSN: 03009440 Labbani-Motlagh, A ; Bastani, S ; Hashemi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The synergistic effect of nano titanium dioxide (10 and 30 nm) and nano silver (10 nm) as antibacterial agents were investigated on UV curable clear coating. Antibacterial and physical-mechanical properties of coating were optimized using experimental design in response surface method. Twenty different samples of nano Ag and nano TiO2 were prepared in this method. Antibacterial properties on Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) were investigated. The results revealed that using equal amounts of two sizes of nano TiO2 promote the antibacterial activity of nano Ag. So, the coating shows strong activity against E. coli. Physical-mechanical properties such as surface hardness, abrasion...

Rheological and sedimentation behaviour of nanosilver colloids for inkjet printing

    , Article International Journal of Nanomanufacturing ; Volume 5, Issue 3-4 , 2010 , Pages 383-392 ; 17469392 (ISSN) Tamjid, E ; Guenther, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Inkjet printing of colloidal metals is an attractive method for direct patterning of electrically conductive structures and interconnects in electronic devices, owing to low-cost, low-waste and simplicity of the process. In the present work, mixtures of well-dispersed silver nanoparticles and ethylene glycol were prepared for the inkjet printing process. Three different surfactants including PVP, MSA and AOT were added to study the stability of the nanosilver colloids. The effect of high-intensity ultrasonic treatment and temperature on the rheological properties was investigated utilising a rheometer in plate-plate geometry. It is shown that the viscosity of the ink increases with...

Antibacterial silver nanoparticles in polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate blend produced by gamma irradiation

    , Article International Journal of Biological Macromolecules ; Volume 80 , 2015 , Pages 170-176 ; 01418130 (ISSN) Eghbalifam, N ; Frounchi, M ; Dadbin, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate/nano silver (PVA/SA/Ag) composite films were made by solution casting method. Gamma irradiation was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles in situ via reduction of silver nitrate without using harmful chemical agents for biomedical applications. UV-vis and XRD results demonstrated that spherical silver nanoparticles were produced even at low irradiation dose of 5. kGy. By increasing irradiation dose, more nanoparticles were synthesized while no PVA hydrogel was formed up to 15. kGy. Also the size of nanoparticles was reduced with increasing gamma dose evidenced by higher release rate of silver nanoparticles in lukewarm water and SEM images. Comparing SEM...
