    Abstract
The Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/WO3 nanocomposite thin films with different MWCNT's weight percentages were prepared by sol-gel method as visible light induced photoanode in water splitting reaction. Weight percentage of MWCNT in the all nanocomposite thin films was confirmed by TGA/DSC analysis. According to XPS analysis, oxygenated groups at the surface of the MWCNT and stoichiometric formation of WO3 thin films were determined, while the crystalline structure of the nanocomposite samples was studied by XRD indicating (0 0 2) peak of MWCNT in the monoclinic phase of WO3. The influence of different weight percentage (wt%) of MWCNT on WO3 photoactivity showed that the electron...

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Vol. 320, issue , 30 November , 2014 , pp. 772-779 ; ISSN: 01694332 Yousefzadeh, S ; Faraji, M ; Nien, Y. T ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
CdS/TiO2/graphene (CTG) nanocomposite thin films were synthesized by a facile production route. The TiO2/graphene (TG) nanocomposite was initially fabricated by sol-gel method in such a way that TiO2 nanoparticles loaded on graphene oxide (GO) sheet via photocatalytic process. Then, CdS nanoparticles were deposited on the TG thin film by successive ion layer adsorption and reaction process (SILAR) approach. Based on atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses, the TG thin film possessed a larger surface area as compared with the pure TiO2 thin film due to presence of graphene sheet. UV/visible spectroscopy exhibited...

    Abstract
Two types of unfunctionalized and functionalized multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared to be applied in fabrication of MWCNT-ZnO nanocomposite thin films with various MWCNT contents. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated formation of functional groups on surface of the functionalized MWCNTs in the MWCNT-ZnO nanocomposite. Formation of the effective carbonaceous bonds between the ZnO and the MWCNTs was also investigated through photoinactivation of Escherichia coli bacteria on surface of the both unfunctionalized and functionalized MWCNT-ZnO nanocomposites. The functionalized MWCNT-ZnO nanocomposites showed significantly stronger photoinactivation of the bacteria than the...

    Abstract
In this study, a novel nanocomposite thin film of Zn–SiO2 is considered. The thin film is a viable alternative for higher abrasion-resistant coatings. DLS technique revealed that the nanoparticle size is to be below 10 nm, and FE-SEM showed particle size to be below 17 nm in the obtained coating. The coating was found to be highly adhesive with an amorphous structure and hardness value above 1000HV. Corrosion resistance studies using linear polarization technique revealed that this unique nanocomposite has a lower corrosion rate than hot-dip galvanized steel at higher positive potentials. A conclusive mechanism for corrosion and erosion improvement has been proposed. Graphical Abstract:...

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 37, Issue 4 , Feb , 2012 , Pages 3056-3065 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Naseri, N ; Kim, H ; Choi, W ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
TiO2 thin films containing different concentrations of Ag nanoparticles have been synthesized by sol-gel method. According to UV-visible spectra, presence of an intense surface plasmon resonance peak at 490 nm of wavelength indicated formation of silver nanoparticles in the TiO2 films. Based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis, the surface roughness and the effective surface ratio increased by increasing the Ag mol%. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed formation of Ag nanoparticles on the surface for the samples containing high Ag concentration. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed that the size of Ag nanocrystals increased by increasing the Ag content in...

Moreover, based on the XPS data analysis, it was found that three major metal ions namely Ce 3+, Ce4+, and Zn2+ coexist on the surface of the nanocomposite films. XPS data analysis also revealed that...

    Abstract
In this study, pure TiO2 and Au:TiO2 nanocomposite thin films are both synthesized using sol-gel and RF reactive co-sputtering methods. Physical and photoelectrochemical properties of the thin films deposited by each method are compared. The optical density spectra and scanning electron microscopy images of the Au:TiO2 films reveal formation of gold nanoparticles in the all nanocomposite films synthesized by two methods. Moreover, the optical bandgap energy of the thin films decreases with addition of Au nanoparticles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates that the presence of gold in metallic state and the formation of TiO2 is stoichiometric. The photoelectrochemical properties of the...
