    , Article Diamond and Related Materials ; Volume 40, 2013, Pages 107-114 Mansoorianfar, M. (Mojtaba) ; Shokrgozar, M. A ; Mehrjoo, M ; Tamjid, E ; Simchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Recently, nanodiamonds have attracted interest in biomedical applications such as drug delivery, targeted cancer therapies, fabrication of tissue scaffolds, and biosensors. We incorporated diamond nanoparticles in alginate–bioactive glass films by electrophoretic process to prepare functional coatings for biomedical implants. Turbidity examination by time-resolved laser transmittance measurement revealed that a stable multi-component aqueous suspension of alginate, bioactive glass and diamond particles could be obtained at concentrations of 0.6, 1.3, and 0.65 g/l, respectively. Uniform films with ~ 5 μm thickness were deposited on 316 stainless steel foils by employing constant field...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Delavar Jolfaee, Zahra (Author) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Chitosan is a biocompatible and biopolymer with unique characteristics. Nanodiamonds that are basically carbon based nanoparticle have excellent mechanical, thermal stability biocompatibility bahviors. Combination of these two materials helps to the advantage of all the desirable features of both material and compensate low mechanical properties and strength of chitosan. In this study, we examine the composition of different percentages of nanodiamonds in chitosan and effect of modification on properties of the nanocomposites. The thermal behaviour, swelling behaviour and water contact angle of different nanocomposites were analyzed. Finally, to determine the distribution of the...

    2013
    Abstract
Nanodiamond-graphite (NDG) decorated with Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs-NDG) was prepared and used to construct a novel sensitive sensor for the voltammetric determination of thioridazine (TR). The results indicate a remarkable increase in the oxidation peak currents together with a negative shift in the oxidation peak potentials, in comparison to the bare pyrolytic graphite electrode. Remarkable enhancement in microscopic area of the electrode along with strong adsorption of TR on the surface of the modified electrode resulted in a considerable increase in the peak current of TR. The surface morphology and the nature of the composite film deposited on PGE were characterized by scanning electron...

    , Article Diamond and Related Materials ; Volume 104 , 2020 Aranifard, S ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
In the context of nanodiamond/chitosan (ND/CS) nanocomposites and utilizing atomistic molecular dynamics, the interaction mechanism of adsorbed CS layer around a model ND has been investigated at three level of hydration: in bulk of water, water as a droplet, and completely dry condition. The effect of amination and carboxylation of ND has been studied. To ensure that the comparison of these model systems is meaningful (energetically and geometrically), the CS interphases around NDs were characterized through holistic concentration profiles and density distribution maps. Our results revealed that in a completely dry condition or hydrated by a molecularly small droplet, both of the...

Nanocomposites can add or improve one or more properties to coating properties. In the present study, we tried to first synthesize NanoDiamond/Polyaniline hybrid nanoparticles in different percentages and then use this hybrid in epoxy ester coating. To characterize this hybrid, various analyzes such as FE-SEM, TEM, FT-IR, UV-Visible, TGA and XRD were...

    , Article Polymer International ; Volume 66, Issue 6 , 2017 , Pages 950-959 ; 09598103 (ISSN) Hashemi, M ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Unsaturated polyester/styrene (UP) resin was filled with nanodiamonds (NDs) containing carboxyl and methacrylate functionalities using mechanical mixing. Field emission SEM exhibited a uniform dispersion of tightly bound aggregates of nanosized spherical NDs with good interfacial interaction. Rheological measurements exhibited a step increment in the shear viscosity of a UP/ND suspension at 0.6 wt% ND resembling a percolation state at this loading. Shear viscosity data supported by dynamic mechanical analysis results suggested the development of effective ND particles in which ND aggregates were covered by only polyester macromolecules. Accordingly, the morphology of UP/ND composites...

    , Article Tribology International ; Volume 115 , 2017 , Pages 370-377 ; 0301679X (ISSN) Karami, P ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2017
    Abstract
In the present study, it was revealed that incorporation of nanodiamond containing carboxylic group (ND-COOH) decreased considerably specific wear rate (∼30%) and COF (∼60%) of polyamide 6 (PA6) at 1 wt% loading. Compared with ND-COOH, amino functionalized ND enhanced further wear performance of PA6 which was associated with its finer dispersion as well as greater influence on the improvement of mechanical properties, toughness and crystallinity of PA6. Surface temperature increment caused by frictional heat was in close agreement with COF and wear characteristics of the samples. Optical microscopy images revealed that NDs promote the abrasive wear mechanism in PA6/ND composites. © 2017...

    Abstract
A series of novel chitosan/nanodiamond (CTS/ND) composites containing NDs with variable surface carboxyl groups and various concentrations were prepared using solution casting method. Powdery CTS/ND composites were employed as the adsorbent of a model anionic dye (methyl orange, MO). Experimental results showed that the incorporation of NDs with high carboxylic content (ND-H) in to CTS increased substantially the maximum adsorption capacity of neat CTS from 167 mg/g to 454 mg/g. The remarkable adsorption capacity of dye on CTS/ND composites was associated to the oxygen-containing groups on the outer surface of NDs which would be beneficial to interact with the dye molecules through hydrogen...

    Abstract
In the present study the effect of nanodiamond (ND) on the adsorption capacity of Drug has been investigated. Thermal oxidation nanodiamond (OND) was used as adsorbents for Methotrexate adsorption. The surface properties of NDs were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and zeta potential. It was determined that thermal oxidation changed the surface properties of ND, including increase the amount of carboxylic acid groups and decreasing the zeta potential of ND by increasing the thermal oxidation time. The adsorption experiments showed that untreated ND (UND) has large adsorption capacity and fast adsorption kinetic for methotrexate (MTX). These results suggest that the...

    Abstract
Present work illustrated that the performance of ultrafine silica (Si) particles was improved considerably by rational hybridization with nanodiamond (ND). For this, Si@ND hybrid particles synthesized by chemical hybridization were incorporated into styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) up to 10 phr. Scanning electron microscopy revealed coarse flower-like clusters for Si@ND nanohybrids, while Si exhibited rigid agglomerates in SBR. Comparing with physical hybrid (Si&ND) and single Si particles, it was revealed that chemical hybrids synergistically improved tensile properties, like 100% and 135% improvements in tensile strength and elongation at break, respectively. Dynamic mechanical analysis of...
