Preparation of Nanocomposites based on Poly (Lactic Acid)/Nano-Diamond

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esfandiari, Atene (Author) ; Forounchi, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nanodiamond (ND)/polylactic acid (PLA) nanocomposites have the potential for biomedical applications and bone tissue engineering. In this research, nanodiamond/poly lactic acid nanocomposites were prepared by mechanical mixing solution method and applying ultrasonication. Also, PLA-based nanofiber scaffold reinforced by nanodiamond were prepared by electrospinning methods. To find the optimum value of parameters to prepare this nanocomposite sample, the effect of nanofiller concentration, mixing rate and duration, the role of solute and ultrasonication, and solvent evaporation conditions were investigated and then it compared to the neat polylactic acid sample. By means of Fourier transform...

Design and Fabrication of Microfluidic Biosensors based on Modified Electrospun Nanofibrous Membranes for Biomarkers Detection

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mahmoudifard, Matin (Author) ; Vosoughi, Manuchehr (Supervisor) ; Soleimani, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Soudi, Sara (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The accurate assessment of biomarkers likes proteins, hormones or other biomolecules that amount of them changes with state of disease or level of treatment and gives diagnostic information is a difficult duty. In these samples, pathogens exist in small quantity compared to other background molecules. Therefore, appropriate sampling process for concentrating and separating pathogens from the matrix should be developed in order to provide rapid and accurate pathogen detection test. In this thesis design and fabrication of microfluidic biosensors based on the modified nanofibrous membranes were investigated and explained. PES nanofibrous membrane with carboxyl functional groups for covalent...

Design and Fabrication of Conductive Nanofibrous Scaffolds in Nerve Tissue Engineering

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleymani, Maryam (Author) ; Mashayekhan, Shohreh (Supervisor) ; Ramezani Saadat, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The nervous system is the most important communication machine in body which regulates the function of other organs. Peripheral nerves in contrary to central nervous system have the potential for regeneration, but regrowth requires proper environmental conditions and supporting growth factors. Tissue engineered scaffolds create a suitable milieu for disconnected axon to regenerate. The aim of this study in the first stage is the fabrication of nanostructured of conductive polymers (graphene and polyaniline) within a bed of gelatin polymer and then conducting some analyses including conductance, degradation rate and tensile test besides morphological analyses of fibers through SEM and...

Three-Dimensional Polyamide Nanofibrous Scaffolds for Needle Trap Microextraction of Chlorobenzenes from Water Samples and Comparing them with Two-Dimensional Nanofibres

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Manshaei, Faranak (Author) ; Bagheri, Habib (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the past decades, electrospinning has been widely used for the production of micro/nanofibers. In spite of the simplicity and effectivity of the conventional electrospinning for fabricating nanofibers, compact structure and small pores of the nanofibers hinder the efficient penetration of analytes during the extraction process. In order to overcome this issue, an applicable strategy called wet electrospinnig has been employed to enlarge the pore size of the electrospun scaffolds. By applying this technique, a collector was placed at the bottom of a solvent bath and highly porous foam from polyamide nanofibers was produced immediately after freeze-drying (3D electrospinning)....

Controlled release of doxorubicin from electrospun PEO/chitosan/graphene oxide nanocomposite nanofibrous scaffolds

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering C ; Volume 48 , March , 2015 , Pages 384-390 ; 09284931 (ISSN) Ardeshirzadeh, B ; Aboutalebi Anaraki, N ; Irani, M ; Roshanfekr Rad, L ; Shamshiri, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Polyethylene oxide (PEO)/chitosan (CS)/graphene oxide (GO) electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds were successfully developed via electrospinning process for controlled release of doxorubicin (DOX). The SEM analysis of nanofibrous scaffolds with different contents of GO (0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 0.7 wt.%) indicated that the minimum diameter of nanofibers was found to be 85 nm for PEO/CS/GO 0.5% nanofibers. The π-π stacking interaction between DOX and GO with fine pores of nanofibrous scaffolds exhibited higher drug loading (98%) and controlled release of the DOX loaded PEO/CS/GO nanofibers. The results of DOX release from nanofibrous scaffolds at pH 5.3 and 7.4 indicated strong pH dependence. The...

    Abstract
The simultaneous effect of electrospun scaffold alignment and polymer composition on chondrogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMMSC) is investigated. Aligned and randomly oriented polycaprolactone/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) hybrid electrospun scaffolds with two different ratios are fabricated by electrospinning. It is found that aligned nanofibrous scaffolds support higher chondrogenic differentiation of hBMMSCs compared to random ones. The aligned scaffolds show a higher expression level of chondrogenic markers such as type II collagen and aggrecan. It is concluded that the aligned nanofibrous scaffold with higher PLGA ratio could significantly...

    Abstract
Here we report on the development of a hybrid nanofibrous scaffold made from polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofibers embedding zinc oxide nanorods (ZnOns), and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibers incorporating dexamethasone (DEX)-loaded chitosan nanoparticles using dual-electrospinning method. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and tensile analysis were carried out for physiochemical characterization of the scaffolds, followed by DEX release profile. In addition, an MTT assay was conducted to assess the viability of mouse bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (mBMSCs) on the hybrid nanofibrous scaffold....

Herein, for the first time, electrospinning setup was proposed to fabricate an efficient composite nanofibrous structure of Beta vulgaris (obtained from Beet [Chenopodiaceae or Amaranthaceae]) belonged to polysaccharides and an elastic polymer named nylon 66 for skin tissue engineering. Both prepared scaffolds including noncomposite and composite types were studied by Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, mechanical assay, and contact angle. Scanning electron microscope examinations have approved the uniform and homogeneous...
