    , Article International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer ; Volume 38, Issue 10 , 2011 , Pages 1443-1448 ; 07351933 (ISSN) Darbandi, M ; Roohi, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
In this study, we use direct simulation Monte Carlo method to simulate subsonic flow in nanochannels and micro/nanoscale backward-facing (BF) step considering a wide range of Knudsen number regimes. The nanochannel flow simulation indicates that the nanoscale flow through the nanochannel resembles unique features such as encountering negative pressure deviation behavior and observing flat velocity profiles at higher Knudsen number regimes. On the other hand, the micro/nano BF step flow simulations demonstrate that the length of separation region considerably decreases as the flow becomes more rarefied and approaches the transition regime. Meanwhile, the variations in the flow properties are...

A hybrid DSMC/Navier-Stokes frame to solve mixed rarefied/nonrarefied hypersonic flows over nano-plateandmicro-cylinder

    , Article International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids ; Volume 72, Issue 9 , 2013 , Pages 937-966 ; 02712091 (ISSN) Darbandi, M ; Roohi, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
We extend a hybrid DSMC/Navier-Stokes (NS) approach to unify the DSMC and the NS simulators in one framework capable of solving the mixed non-equilibrium and near-equilibrium flow regions efficiently. Furthermore, we use a one-way state-based coupling (Dirichlet-Dirichlet boundary-condition coupling) to transfer the required information from the continuum region to the rarefied one. The current hybrid DSMC-NS frame is applied to the hypersonic flows over nanoflat plate and microcylinder cases. The achieved solutions are compared with the pure DSMC and NS solutions. The results show that the current hybrid approach predicts the surface heat transfer rate and shear stress magnitudes very...

    Abstract
Afacile, seed-less and one-pot method was developed for synthesis of gold nanoflowers with multiple tips through reduction of HAuCl4 with deep eutectic solvent at room temperature. This solvent is ecofriendly, low-cost, non-toxic and biodegradable and can act as both reducing and shape-controlling agent. In this protocol, highly branched and stable gold nanoflowers were obtained without using any capping agent. The obtained products were characterized by different techniques including, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction andUV-vis spectroscopy. The as-prepared gold nanoflowers exhibit efficient surface-enhanced Raman scattering...

Photothermal properties of two-dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with nanoflower and nanosheet morphology

    Abstract
PEGylated MoS2 nanoflower (MoS2-NF) and nanosheet (MoS2-NS) are synthesized through a one-pot hydrothermal method as photo absorbing agent (PAA). It is found that employing different thiol precursors result in distinct morphologies. The products are structurally, chemically, and morphologically characterized. Electron microscopy demonstrates the formation of sheet and flower morphologies of MoS2. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and thermal gravimetric (TGA) analysis confirm the PEGylation of MoS2 nanostructures. Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirm the formation of 1T/2H structure of both samples. MoS2-NS demonstrates higher NIR absorption than MoS2-NF with a mass...

Recommendations on performance of parallel DSMC algorithm in solving subsonic nanoflows

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 36, Issue 5 , May , 2012 , Pages 2314-2321 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Roohi, E ; Darbandi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We investigate the efficiency of a parallel direct simulation Monte Carlo (PDSMC) algorithm in solving the rarefied subsonic flow through a nanochannel. We use MPI library to transfer data between the processors. It is observed that PDSMC solver shows ideal speed up if sufficient workload is provided for each of processors. Additionally, this study shows that the computational time and speed up of the extended PDSMC solver do not depend (or slightly depend) on the number of cells. In contrary, increasing the total number of particles would result in a better efficiency of the PDSMC

Detail study on improving micro/nano gas mixer performances in slip and transitional flow regimes

    Abstract
The mixer geometry has substantial effect on mixing performance of different micro/nanomixers. Despite past numerous studies dedicated to mixing of liquid flow streams, there are less efforts to investigate the geometry effects on gas mixing performances. In this work, we focus on gas-gas mixing through different micro/nanoscale mixers under slip and transitional flow regimes. We use the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method to provide accurate and reliable results in such flow regimes. To extend our study, we implement different geometrical parameters in our consideration including the mixer size, the impact angle between two incoming gas streams, and the contraction height located in...

Hierarchical rutile/anatase TiO 2 nanorod/nanoflower thin film: Synthesis and characterizations

    , Article Materials Science in Semiconductor Processing ; Volume 93 , 2019 , Pages 252-259 ; 13698001 (ISSN) Daneshvar e Asl, S ; Eslami Saed, A ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2019
    Abstract
Hierarchical TiO 2 nanorod/nanoflower thin film was synthesized on fluorine doped tin oxide glass via hydrothermal and aqueous chemistry methods. According to field emission scanning electron microscopy results, the thin film was crack-free and uniform. Primary nanorods had an average diameter of 95 nm and a length of 2 µm. They were perpendicular to the substrate owing to the TiO 2 prenucleation. Growth of the nanoflowers on the nanorods could increase both the specific surface area and roughness. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy showed that the nanorods were rutile; while the nanoflowers were anatase. Efficient electron transfer from anatase to rutile could therefore occur....

    Abstract
The present study reports a simple electrochemical approach to the fabrication of a new nanocomposite containing PtPd nanoflowers (NFs) promoted with two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets (NSs) structure cuprous oxide (Cu2O) supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) (PtPd-NFs/Cu2O-NSs/rGO). Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectra, Raman spectroscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy are used for characterization of the PtPd-NPs/Cu2O-NPs/rGO. SEM images showed that vertical-standing arrays of Cu2O with an edge length up to 1 μm and thickness of about 20 nm are electrodeposited on the surface of rGO film. Also, PtPd needle-like NFs with visible and...

Electrodeposition of various au nanostructures on aligned carbon nanotubes as highly sensitive nanoelectrode ensembles

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 24, Issue 5 , May , 2015 , Pages 2005-2015 ; 10599495 (ISSN) Fayazfar, H ; Afshar, A ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
An efficient method has been developed to synthesize well-aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on a conductive Ta substrate by chemical vapor deposition. Free-standing MWCNTs arrays were functionalized through electrochemical oxidation with the formation of hydroxyl and carboxyl functional groups. Facile template-free electrochemical routes were then developed for the shape-selective synthesis of less-common Au nanostructures, including flower, sphere, dendrite, rod, sheet, and cabbage onto the aligned MWCNTs at room temperature. Especially, among all the synthesis methods for Au nanocrystals, this is the first report using electrochemical technique to synthesize wide variety...
