    , Article Scientific Reports ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , 2017 ; 20452322 (ISSN) Jafarinejad, S ; Ghazi Khansari, M ; Ghasemi, F ; Sasanpour, P ; Hormozi Nezhad, MR ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Catecholamine neurotransmitters, generally including dopamine (DA), epinephrine (EP) and norepinephrine (NE) are known as substantial indicators of various neurological diseases. Simultaneous detection of these compounds and their metabolites is highly recommended in early clinical diagnosis. To this aim, in the present contribution, a high performance colorimetric sensor array has been proposed for the detection and discrimination of catecholamines based on their reducing ability to deposit silver on the surface of gold nanorods (AuNRs). The amassed silver nanoshell led to a blue shift in the longitudinal localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) peak of AuNRs, creating a unique pattern...

    Abstract
Group 6 transition metal dichalcogenides (G6-TMDs), most notably MoS2, MoSe2, MoTe2, WS2 and WSe2, constitute an important class of materials with a layered crystal structure. Various types of G6-TMD nanomaterials, such as nanosheets, nanotubes and quantum dot nano-objects and flower-like nanostructures, have been synthesized. High thermodynamic stability under ambient conditions, even in atomically thin form, made nanosheets of these inorganic semiconductors a valuable asset in the existing library of two-dimensional (2D) materials, along with the well-known semimetallic graphene and insulating hexagonal boron nitride. G6-TMDs generally possess an appropriate bandgap (1-2 eV) which is...

    Abstract
The emergence of nanoscience and nanotechnology has opened up new horizons to researchers. In this regard, carbon nanomaterials are considered as the cornerstone of numerous investigations. Among various carbon nanostructures, “Carbon nanoparticles (CNPs)” have attracted a great deal of attention during the past few years due to their unique properties such as high surface area, non-toxicity, biocompatibility as well as simple and low-cost synthetic procedures via environmentally friendly routes. Thanks to these properties along with their interesting optical behavior, CNPs have found diverse applications in the fields of bioimaging, nanomedicine, photo/electro-catalysis, and bio/chemical...

The dynamics of university-industry-government relationships in Nanoscience: investigating the Triple-Helix differences between Iran and Switzerland

    , Article Technology Analysis and Strategic Management ; Volume 31, Issue 7 , 2019 , Pages 817-832 ; 09537325 (ISSN) Souzanchi Kashani, E ; Zarghami, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Routledge  2019
    Abstract
This study aims to find the differences between national and international relationships in Iran and Switzerland’s Nanoscience research between 2008–2015. The results show significant differences some of which are attributed to the general dichotomy of developed-developing countries like stronger University-Industry-Government relations in Switzerland; but others are not, especially those pertaining to bilateral relations. In summary, the Government-Industry relations in Switzerland are generally closer in this field because the emerging characteristics of Nanoscience call for more state intervention, even in the context of developed countries. Greater Government-University relations in Iran...

Forbidden spatial frequencies in periodic structures composed of subwavelength nano conducting layers

    , Article 2006 International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, ICONN 2006, Brisbane, 3 July 2006 through 6 July 2006 ; 2006 , Pages 474-477 ; 1424404533 (ISBN); 9781424404537 (ISBN) Mehrany, K ; Rashidian, B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Recently, electromagnetic slow wave propagation in Kronig-Penny photonic crystals composed of conducting interfaces constituted of extremely thin charge layers has been studied, where analytic expressions for Bloch wave numbers in terms of normalized frequency were derived, asymptotic behavior of electromagnetic slow wave propagation in these structures was investigated at different regimes, and the possibility of observing forbidden spatial frequencies was numerically demonstrated. In this manuscript, the existence and electromagnetic behavior of such waves together with the possibility of having forbidden spatial frequency are investigated by taking the finiteness of charge layer thickness...

    Abstract
Recently, a group of novel devices based on conducting interfaces has been proposed. These conducting interfaces can be implemented by using the inversion layer of MOS structures, trapped charges or depletion layer charges. It has been shown that these structures can support surface electromagnetic waves. In this paper, the coupling of surface electromagnetic waves supported by nano charge layers is analyzed and its asymptotic behavior toward conducting interfaces, where the thin charge layer of finite thickness is modeled via a surface conductivity σs, is numerically studied for the first time. The numerical results driven by coupled mode theory approach are justified by solving exact...

Crystallinity of CoSi2 nanolayer grown by refractory metal interlayer and cap layer methods

    , Article Journal of Physics: Conference Series ; Volume 100, Issue PART 4 , 2008 ; 17426588 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Institute of Physics Publishing  2008
    Abstract
Epitaxial formation of CoSi2 nanolayer by solid state reaction of Co-Si in refractory metal intermediate-layer and cap-layer systems was investigated. Thin films of Ta and W, as the refractory metal intermediate or cap layers of the Co film, were deposited on Si(100) substrate and then heat-treated. The both interlayers resulted in formation of epitaxial CoSi 2 with (100) crystallographic orientation at 900°C. However, in the Ta intermediated system, the grown CoSi2 layer was thermally unstable at 1000°C, unlike the W system with a stable silicide layer. We found that use of W cap-layer cannot yield an epitaxial CoSi2 phase. But, a Ta cap-layer resulted in formation of epitaxial CoSi2(100)...

Synthesis and analysis of the properties of ferro-fluids

    , Article ICONN 2010 - Proceedings of the 2010 International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 22 February 2010 through 26 February 2010, Sydney, NSW ; 2010 , Pages 91-93 ; 9781424452620 (ISBN) Maleki Jirsaraei, N ; Ghane Motlagh, B ; Ghane Golmohamadi, F ; Ghane Motlagh, R ; Rouhani, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We report the rheological properties of ferro-fluid (FF) containing iron oxide nano-particles. At first, a FF was synthesized by using chemical co-precipitaton[1]. The microstructure study using SEM revealed that the FF contained nano-particles with the mean particle size of 35nm. The XRD study revealed that we have well crystallized structures of magnetite; they appeared to be approximately single crystalline structures. The rheological results proved that the FF has non Newtonian behavior, it is a shear thinning fluid in all magnetic fields, Moreover, the magnetic field increases the viscosity in a definite shear rate due to the nano-particles agglomerations and formation of chain-like...
