    Comparison of ozonation and aeration methods in removal of naphthalene from aqueous solution

    Abstract
    High molecular mass of naphthalene make it non-biodegradable and the biological methods for treated the pollutant are much time consuming. In this paper, two methods of ozonation and aeration are used to remove naphthalene. Because of the industrial wastewater has a great range of pH, in this study different concentrations of soluble naphthalene are placed in variable pH conditions, different contact times and changes in amount of aeration and ozonation. ANOVA results indicated a significant difference between two methods. The average removal of naphthalene by use of ozonation is 55 % and 37 % for aeration. As results, the best conditions that naphthalene are removed is in acidic environment...

    In the present research, two series of N2O2- and N4O2-naphthadiaza-crown macrocyclic ligands with different macroring size, 15-21 memberd (L1-L7) were synthesized using direct method. The products were characterized by applying 1H and 13C NMR, IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis and in some cases by X-ray crystallography.     In this research, titanium dioxide-phosphorus (TiO2-P) immobilized on silica phosphoric acid (SPA) was prepared by a simple modified sol–gel method with SPA as a precursor instead of phosphoric acid. TiO2-P thin film photocatalyst immobilized on SPA as a novel high-efficiency photocatalyst was investigated to remove naphthalene as a toxic compound from wastewater.     The thermophilic bacterium Nocardia otitidiscaviarum strain TSH1, originally isolated in our laboratory from a petroindustrial wastewater contaminated soil in Iran, grows at 50 °C on a broad range of hydrocarbons. Transformation of naphthalene by strain TSH1 which is able to use this two ring-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) as a sole source of carbon and energy was investigated. The metabolic pathway was elucidated by identifying metabolites, biotransformation studies and monitoring enzyme activities in cell-free extracts.     Homogeneous and fairly monosized microspherical structures of polyaniline has been synthesized using a simple soft template method with β-naphthalene sulfonic acid (β-NSA) as both the surfactant and dopant, and ammonium persulfate (APS) as the oxidant at 2-5 C. The morphology of PANI-NSA was successfully controlled from nanotubes to microsphere, by changing the synthesis conditions (i.e. pH, the concentration of surfactant and monomer, and temperature).     Triclosan is widely used as an antibacterial agent in personal health care products, especially in recent years with the spread of the Coronavirus. This substance is one of the emerging contaminants, and due to its stable and toxic nature, this material cannot be destroyed in the process of biological wastewater treatment. In this research, a new bacterial strain was isolated and purified from industrial wastewater for the biological removal of triclosan.     Abstract
    A bacterial strain, FBHYA2, capable of degrading naphthalene, was isolated from the American Petroleum Institute (API) separator of the Tehran Oil Refinery Complex (TORC). Strain FBHYA2 was identified as Achromobacter sp. based on physiological and biochemical characteristics and also phylogenetic similarity of 16S rRNA gene sequence. The optimal growth conditions for strain FBHYA2 were pH 6.0, 30°C and 1.0% NaCl. Strain FBHYA2 can utilize naphthalene as the sole source of carbon and energy and was able to degrade naphthalene aerobically very fast, 48 h for 96% removal at 500 mg/L concentration.     Aims: The metabolism of phenanthrene and anthracene by a moderate thermophilic Nocardia otitidiscaviarum strain TSH1 was examined.
