    Abstract
Both experimental and numerical studies are unanimous for enhancing Nusselt number for forced convection of nanofluids with slight difference, but there is inconsistency for natural convection heat transfer of nanofluids. In this paper attempt is made to study the effects of nanoparticles migration on the natural convection behavior of nanofluids. For analysis, a mixture model is used by including important phenomena such as Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects. These two mechanisms are taken into account to compute the slip velocities between the base fluid and nanoparticles. The governing equations are solved numerically and good agreements are observed in comparison with...

    Abstract
One important heat transfer application in engineering is to predict the flow behavior and heat transfer rate in thin vertical air layers. There are numerous applications in engi- neering where high temperature gradients exist between the slot walls. In such cases, the methods based on simple Boussinesq approximations do not provide reliable predictions. Unfortunately, the compressibility effect in heat transfer rate through thin vertical slots has not been much investigated by the past investigators. In this work, a compressible algorithm is properly developed and utilized to solve compressible natural convection in vertical air layers. The current technique employs discretization equations...

Numerical study of high gradient thermobuoyant flow in a tilted cavity using a novel non-boussinesq algorithm

    Abstract
We study the natural convection heat transfer in a tilted square cavity with different tilt angles. The cavity is subject to a high gradient temperature resulting in high Rayleigh number flows. The fluid is air and is treated as an ideal gas. The flow is laminar. The fluid properties change with temperature variation using Sutherland's law. Because of imposing large temperature gradients to the two cavity opposite walls, there is substantial density variation in the domain. We use a novel non-Boussinesq algorithm to model the density variation fully. Therefore, the current results are considerably different from those obtained using the classical Boussinesq-based methods, which replace the...

    Abstract
Effects of inclination angle on natural convective heat transfer and fluid flow in an enclosure filled with Al2O3-water nanofluid are studied numerically. The left and right walls of enclosure are kept in hot and cold constant temperature while the other two walls are assumed to be adiabatic. Considering Brownian motion and thermophoresis effect (two important slip velocity mechanisms) the two-phase mixture model has been employed to investigate the flow and thermal behaviors of the nanofluid. The study was performed for various inclination angles of enclosure ranging from γ = 0° to γ = 60°, volume fraction from 0% to 3%, and Rayleigh numbers varying from 105 to 107. The governing equations...

Theoretical comparative assessment of single- and two-phase models for natural convection heat transfer of Fe3O4/ethylene glycol nanofluid in the presence of electric field

    Abstract
Natural convective heat transfer of Fe3O4/ethylene glycol nanofluids around the platinum wire as a heater in the absence and presence of the high electric field was investigated, numerically. The control volume finite element method was employed for the numerical simulation. Effects of the flow model, the volume fraction of nanoparticles, Rayleigh number, and the electric field intensity on the natural heat transfer coefficient (NHTC) of nanofluid were studied. Simulation results of single-phase and two-phase flow models showed that the two-phase model could better predict experimental data than the single-phase model due to take into account the velocity of each phase in the mixture. The...
