    Abstract
In present work, a novel supported bucky paper (BP) membrane was fabricated and evaluated for humic acid (HA) removal from water. For better understanding the effect of operating variables, response surface methodology (RSM) was also applied. Three independent parameters namely TOC concentration (5, 10 and 15 mg l-1), operating time (10, 20 and 30 min) and transmembrane pressure (TMP) (1, 2 and 3 bar) were selected for TOC removal (%) and permeate flux analysis. The results revealed that the membrane could effectively remove HA primarily through electrostatic repulsion and then adsorption mechanisms. The study also showed that about 65% and 35% of the removed HA were through repulsion and...

Some Investigation on Humic Acid Removal From Aquaous Solutions Using Nanophotocatalytic UV/TiO2 Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Joolaei, Hediyeh (Author) ; Vosoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Humic compounds are considered the most portion of natural organic matter (NOM) found in many surface water sources.Humic substances have been known as precursors to disinfection by-products.because conventional treatment process can not meet disinfection by-product standards, novel method have been increasingly applied for the removal of disinfection by-products precursors.The〖UV/TiO〗_2 process is one of the advanced oxidation process using the photocatalytic technology. The most important advantages of this process are its stability and high efficiency removal. The present study aims to investigate the effect of 〖UV/TiO〗_2photo-catalytic technology on removal of humic substances. In this...

Removal of humic acid from aqueous solution using photocatalytic reaction on perlite granules covered by nano TiO2 particles

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 242 , 2017 , Pages 357-363 ; 01677322 (ISSN) Joolaei, H ; Vossoughi, M ; Rashidi Mehr Abadi, A ; Heravi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Humic acid (HA) constitutes a large portion of natural organic matter (NOM), and is the main precursor of toxic and cancerogenic Trihalomethanes compounds, formed during chlorination of drinking water. Therefore, it is essential that the humic acid be eliminated from water before treating it. The present study aims to investigate the photocatalytic degradation of humic acid (HA) using TiO2 nanoparticles immobilized on perlite granules (TIP), irradiated by UV light in a photoreactor. Samples of coated perlites were prepared by a dip coating method using a commercial powder of TiO2. Characteristics of the prepared samples were evaluated by X-ray and scanning electron microscope techniques....

    Abstract
In Fenton-like oxidation processes, the use of biochar (BC) as support material for the nanoscale zero valent iron-nickel (nZVI-Ni) bimetallic particles attained much attention to activate persulfate (PS) for TCE degradation in aqueous medium. In present work, nZVI-Ni@BC particles with nZVI-Ni to BC mass ratio of 1:5 exhibited excellent results (> 99 % ± 0.24) for TCE degradation. The physico-chemical characteristics, surface morphologies, and elemental mapping of the synthesized nZVI-Ni@BC particles investigated through SEM, EDX, TEM, XPS, XRD, BET and FTIR spectroscopy. For the nZVI-Ni@BC-persulfate system, the effects of PS concentration, initial pH, inorganic ions and natural organic...

Photocatalytic TiO2@MIL-88A (Fe)/polyacrylonitrile mixed matrix membranes: Characterization, anti-fouling properties, and performance on the removal of natural organic matter

    Abstract
Photocatalytic membrane reactors (PMRs), coupling photocatalysts and membranes in a single system, have shown a considerable potential to reduce membrane fouling, which is one of the major drawbacks of using membranes to treat water and wastewater. In this study, the visible light-activated photocatalysts were incorporated into the polyacrylonitrile (PAN) casting solution to synthesize the photocatalytic composite membranes. The physicochemical properties and the morphology of the membranes and photocatalysts were characterized by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance...
