    Abstract
Advanced model-based control of pH processes is noticeably a chemical modeling issue, because it can have a profound effect on the attainable control quality. This is especially the case when the pH regulation of streams, consisting of hundreds of constituents with varying concentrations, is encountered. The severe non-linear behavior of pH processes is reflected in the titration curve of the process stream. The performances of all model-based controllers are highly dependent on the accuracy of the model. Considering a great number of parameters such as dissociation constants, solubility products and characteristic concentrations places the designer in a dilemma of choosing between...

    Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for mean square asymptotic reference tracking of nonlinear dynamic systems over Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel. The nonlinear dynamic system has periodic outputs and sinusoidal inputs and is cascaded with a bandpass filter acting as an encoder. By using the describing function method, the nonlinear dynamic system is represented by an equivalent linear dynamic system. Then, for this system, a mean square asymptotic reference tracking technique, including an encoder, a decoder, and a controller, is presented. It is shown that the proposed reference tracking technique results in mean square asymptotic reference tracking of nonlinear dynamic...

    Abstract
This paper is concerned with a distributed model predictive control (DMPC) method that is based on a distributed optimisation method with two-level architecture for communication. Feasibility (constraints satisfaction by the approximated solution), convergence and optimality of this distributed optimisation method are mathematically proved. For an automated irrigation channel, the satisfactory performance of the proposed DMPC method in attenuation of the undesired upstream transient error propagation and amplification phenomenon is illustrated and compared with the performance of another DMPC method that exploits a single-level architecture for communication. It is illustrated that the DMPC...

    Abstract
This paper is concerned with the stability of nonlinear Lipschitz systems subject to bounded process and measurement noises when transmission from sensor to controller is subject to distortion due to quantization. A stabilizing technique and a sufficient condition relating transmission rate to Lipschitz coefficients are presented for almost sure asymptotic bounded stability of nonlinear uncertain Lipschitz systems. In the absence of process and measurement noises, it is shown that the proposed stabilizing technique results in almost sure asymptotic stability. Computer simulations illustrate the satisfactory performance of the proposed technique for almost sure asymptotic bounded stability...

    , Article Systems and Control Letters ; Volume 123 , 2019 , Pages 75-84 ; 01676911 (ISSN) ; https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0167691118301993 Sanjaroon, V ; Farhadi, A ; Khalaj, B. H ; Motahari, A. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper is concerned with estimation and stability of control systems over communication links subject to limited capacity, power constraint, fading, noisy feedback, and different transmission rate rather than system sampling rate. A key issue addressed in this paper is that in the presence of noisy feedback associated with channel, which models transmission of finite number of bits over such links as is the case in most practical scenarios, the well-known eigenvalues rate condition is still a tight bound for stability. Based on an information theoretic analysis, necessary conditions are derived for stability of discrete-time linear control systems via the distant controller in the mean...

A practical approach to networked control design for robust H∞ performance in the presence of uncertainties in both communication and system

    , Article Applied Mathematics and Computation ; Volume 381 , 2020 Haghighi, P ; Tavassoli, B ; Farhadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Inc  2020
    Abstract
This work presents results on the development of robust H∞ control strategy for Networked Control Systems (NCSs) by involving uncertainties in both communication and controlled plant subsystems. The network-induced delays in both communication links (to and from the controller) are assumed to behave as Markov chains. An analytical approach is presented to calculate the transition probabilities of the Markovian network-induced delays. By employing the augmentation method, the resultant system is converted into a delay-free uncertain singular Markovian jump system with bounded transition probabilities. New conditions are established to assure that the uncertain NCS satisfies an H∞ performance...

    Abstract
This paper is concerned with tracking state trajectory at remote controller, stability and performance of linear time-invariant noiseless dynamic systems with multiple observations over the packet erasure network subject to random packet dropout and transmission delay that does not necessarily use feedback channel full time. Three cases are considered in this paper: (1) without feedback channel, (2) with feedback channel intermittently and (3) with full time availability of feedback channel. For all three cases, coding strategies that result in reliable tracking of state trajectory at remote controller with asymptotically zero mean absolute estimation error are presented. Asymptotic mean...

Stability of linear dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel: A co-design approach

    Abstract
This paper is concerned with the stability of linear time-invariant dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel subject to minimum bit rate constraint when an encoder and a decoder are unaware of the control signal. This assumption results in co-designing the encoder, decoder and controller. The encoder, decoder, controller and conditions relating transmission rate to packet erasure probability and eigenvalues of the system matrix A are presented for almost sure asymptotic stability of linear time-invariant dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel with feedback acknowledgment. When the eigenvalues of the system matrix A are real valued, it is shown that the obtained condition for...

    Abstract
This paper presents a supervisory multi-agent control policy over an acoustic communication network subject to imperfections (packet dropout and transmission delay) for localisation of an underwater flow source (e.g., source of chemical pollution, fresh water, etc.) with an unknown location at the bottom of the ocean. A two-loop control policy combined with a coding strategy for reliable communication is presented to perform the above task. A simulator is developed and used to evaluate the trade-offs between quality of communication, transmission delay and control for a fleet of autonomous underwater vehicles supervised over a noisy acoustic communication network by an autonomous surface...

    Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for almost sure asymptotic state tracking, stability and reference tracking of nonlinear dynamic systems by remote controller over the packet erasure channel, which is an abstract model for transmission via WiFi and the Internet. By implementing a suitable linearization method, a proper encoder and decoder are presented for tracking the state trajectory of nonlinear systems at the end of communication link when the measurements are sent through the packet erasure channel. Then, a controller for reference tracking of the system is designed. In the proposed technique linearization is applied when the error between the states and an estimate of these states...

    Abstract
In this paper, we address the stability problem of a noiseless linear time invariant control system over parallel Gaussian channels with feedback. It is shown that the eigenvalues-rate condition which has been proved as a necessary condition, is also sufficient for stability over parallel Gaussian channels. In fact, it is proved that for stabilizing a control system over the parallel Gaussian channels, it suffices that the Shannon channel capacity obtained by the water filling technique is greater than the sum of the logarithm of the unstable eigenvalues magnitude. In order to prove this sufficient condition, we propose a new nonlinear joint source channel coding for parallel Gaussian...

Synthetic biology-inspired robust-perfect-adaptation-achieving control systems: model reduction and stability analysis

, Article IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems ; 2020 Mohammadie Zand, A ; Tavazoei, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2020
    Abstract
In addition to perfectly steering the output concentration of a process network to an exogenous set-point, a desired synthetically implemented biological controller should be able to robustly maintain this regulated output in the face of the extrinsic disturbances and inherent uncertainties due to an evervarying environment besides the imprecise modeling. Such an ability, which is called robust perfect adaptation (RPA), can be achieved by integral feedback control (IFC). Answering how IFC is (biochemically) constructible in generally unknown synthetic networks has been a research focus in the community. One of these answers, which has been well investigated previously, is to utilize a simple...

    Abstract
Nowadays, distributed network systems are broadly using in embedded, real-time and networked control systems. Since they often operate under strict timing constraints, the timing verification is an important and critical phase during the design of them. On the other hand, as contemporary digital systems become more and more complex, taking advantage of the systemlevel design is gaining more widespread acceptance. Beginning from the transaction-level of abstraction is a common and effective method for deploying the system-level design. This paper presents a methodology for evaluation of timing constraints in a distributed network system specified at transactionlevel of abstraction. Timing...
