Abstract
Firms performance in their new product development (NPD) is believed to be positively related with involving suppliers in the process of new product development, and also with the organisations capacity and capability to absorb external and internal knowledge, namely absorptive capacity (AC). Addressing a gap in the literature, this study adopts the definition and structure for AC suggested by Tu et al. (2006) to examine relationships between ACs sub-dimensions with NPD performance, and also their moderating effects on the relationship between supplier involvement and new product development performance, on both financial and nonfinancial aspects. Data from a survey of 161 manufacturing...
Price skimming strategy for new product development
, Article ICORES 2012 - Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems ; 2012 , Pages 108-113 ; 9789898425973 (ISBN) ; Zare, A. G ; Inst. Syst. Technol. Inf., Control Commun. (INSTICC) ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
This article presents a new model for pricing a new product considering skimming pricing strategy in the presence of the competition. We consider two periods for price setting including skimming and economy period. The problem is deciding on a skimming price as well as an economy price in order to maximize the total profit. The derived model is a non-linear programming model and we analyzed the structure and properties of optimal solution to develop a solution method. Analytical results as well as managerial insights are presented by mathematical analysis and numerical analysis
Identifying Success Factors for the Successful New Products Development in Iran Beverage Market
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Najmi, Manoochehr (Supervisor)
Abstract
Launching new food product is more difficult than the marketing of an existing product. Usually companies focus on their ability, and process (product orientation) in New Product Development but many scholar researches say that market orientation is a highly critical factor for new product success. Some literatures have been studied, and many success factors found out but some of them that were related to beverages were chosen. It is concluded by analysis of survey that Functionality, Being Healthy, Manufacture, Packaging, Availability, Repeat use, Trial cost, Feedback, Endorsement, Distribution Channel, Branding, and Awareness are important success factors in NPD in beverage marketing...
A Case Based Reasoning Model for Cost Estimation of Product Development in Design and Process Planning Phases Using a Meta Heuristic Algorithm
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fatahi Valilai, Omid (Supervisor)
Abstract
New product development (NPD) is a crucial process in maintaining a company’s competitive position and succeeding in dynamic markets. One of contemporary trends in the global economy is mass customisation that bases on modifications of existing products instead of designing everything as a new project. Product development can be achieved in design, planning or production phases. Specifications of previous products deliver information of design, cost and time of past NPD projects that can be the basis for developing new products. Given the low chance of technical success, market change and high cost research, market demand, product development management is important to increase the quality...
Extended INFELT STEP: An interoperable platform for managing collaboration among New Product Development applications and CAD/CAM software integrated based on ISO 10303 (STEP) standard
, Article Proceedings of the International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientists 2010, IMECS 2010, 17 March 2010 through 19 March 2010, Kowloon ; 2010 , Pages 1820-1826 ; 9789881701282 (ISBN) ; Houshmand, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Today's information technology capabilities enable the enterprises to increase the manufacturing collaboration and interoperability among their different departments. These departments are engaged in different product development processes from design to manufacturing. INFELT STEP is a three-layered platform. These layers have functions and structures that enable the INFELT STEP platform to manage the product development collaboration among different CAD/CAM application software with an integrated product data structure. INFELT STEP has structures and functions in its interoperability layer that enable different CAD/CAM application software and CNC post processors to use their own data...

Abstract
Although laws vary in the competitive business world of today and the changing supply and demand parameters show that the process of delivering new products to market is very important. Most organizations today have found that spending more than ever on trusting in traditional competitive levers such as quality, cost reduction and differentiation in selling more products and services are not enough to be successful in market, instead notions such as speed, flexibility andagility can have a significant trend toward offering new products and services. There aresome good reasons for knew that organizations need new ways to develop their new products to survival, compete with its competitors and...
A Framework for Redesign of Product Development Processes using Social Networks Based on Machine Learning Techniques
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Houshmand, Mahmoud (Supervisor) ; Fatahi Valilai, Omid (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, developing existing products or introducing new services faces many challenges, as manufacturers/developers invest considerable time and money but often fail. One solution to overcome this problem is to use feedback from users across social networks. This method is more efficient than traditional methods and involves a larger user base, usually with a higher level of literacy. However, it poses certain challenges:
- The volume of information in social networks surpasses traditional methods.
- It is difficult to extract real emotions and concepts (especially when multiple emotions are intertwined) from user comments.
In general, two basic questions are raised in this...

Enterprise-wide Optimization in Batch Processes
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Supervisor)
Abstract
According to the competitive nature of process industries and the necessity of increasing the efficiency of supply, manufacturing, and distribution operations, the optimization of such activities with an integrated attitude has become a major goal of research in the field of Process Systems Engineering. Lying at the interface of Chemical Engineering and Operations Research, enterprise-wide optimization has become a tool that enables the integrated optimization of different components of an industry to maximize the net profit. Design, Planning, Scheduling, and Control are four major operational items within such an optimization that may be simultaneously considered; among which, Planning and...
Design and Analysis of A Business Model Canvas Considering Entrepreneurship and New Product Development in a Fmcg Ecosystem
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fatahi Valilai, Omid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The business model is very important, as many researchers in this field believe that the success or failure of a business is highly dependent on right design and application of this model. In most recent innovation studies, application of innovation in business models or developing an innovative business model itself is one of the main factors to enable an organization to have stable status in the competitive market. This is unlike the traditional believes, which technology and process were the main motivators behind organization to stand out in competitive market. Designing a proper business model requires a system thinking approach, which considers both internal interactions factors, and...
On the influence of shape and material used for the femoral component pegs in knee prostheses for reducing the problem of aseptic loosening
, Article Materials and Design ; Vol. 55, issue , March , 2014 , p. 416-428 ; Sahari, B. B ; Edwards, K. L ; Farahmand, F ; Jahan, A ; Hong, T. S ; Arumugam, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The integration of materials selection and design are essential to the success of new product development, especially when applied to biomedical devices. The knee prosthesis, like any other implant, is a product that still lacks satisfactory design solutions for solving the problem of aseptic loosening. Stress shielding is one of the main causes of aseptic loosening that is intimately related to the overall design of the knee prosthesis. The design of the location pegs in the femoral component of the knee prosthesis is seen to have a critical effect on the stress shielding. In this study, therefore, different combinations of location peg geometries and material designs were assessed using...
