Branch and bound algorithms for resource constrained project scheduling problem subject to nonrenewable resources with prescheduled procurement

    , Article Mathematical Problems in Engineering ; Vol. 2014, issue , 2014 ; ISSN: 1024123X Shirzadeh Chaleshtarti, A ; Shadrokh, S ; Fathi, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A lot of projects in real life are subject to some kinds of nonrenewable resources that are not exactly similar to the type defined in the project scheduling literature. The difference stems from the fact that, in those projects, contrary to the common assumption in the project scheduling literature, nonrenewable resources are not available in full amount at the beginning of the project, but they are procured along the project horizon. In this paper, we study this different type of nonrenewable resources. To that end, we extend the resource constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) by this resource type (RCPSP-NR) and customize four basic branch and bound algorithms of RCPSP for it,...

Optimal constrained non-renewable resource allocation in PERT networks with discrete activity times

    Abstract
In this paper, we develop an approach to optimally allocate a limited nonrenewable resource among the activities of a project, represented by a PERT-Type Network (PTN). The project needs to be completed within some specified due date. The objective is to maximize the probability of project completion on time. The duration of each activity is an arbitrary discrete random variable and also depends on the amount of consumable resource allocated to it. On the basis of the structure of networks, they are categorized as either reducible or irreducible. For each network structure, an analytical algorithm is presented. Through some examples, the algorithms are illustrated

A modified PSO algorithm for minimizing the total costs of resources in MRCPSP

    Abstract
We introduce a multimode resource-constrained project scheduling problem with finish-to-start precedence relations among project activities, considering renewable and nonrenewable resource costs. We assume that renewable resources are rented and are not available in all periods of time of the project. In other words, there is a mandated ready date as well as a due date for each renewable resource type so that no resource is used before its ready date. However, the resources are permitted to be used after their due dates by paying penalty costs. The objective is to minimize the total costs of both renewable and nonrenewable resource usage. This problem is called multimode resource-constrained...

Probabilistic dynamic multi-objective model for renewable and non-renewable distributed generation planning

    Abstract
This study proposes a probabilistic dynamic model for multi-objective distributed generation (DG) planning, which also considers network reinforcement at presence of uncertainties associated with the load values, generated power of wind turbines and electricity market price. Monte Carlo simulation is used to deal with the mentioned uncertainties. The planning process is considered as a two-objective problem. The first objective is the minimisation of total cost including investment and operating cost of DG units, the cost paid to purchase energy from main grid and the network reinforcement costs. The second objective is defined as the minimisation of technical risk, including the probability...

Control of microgrids: Aspects and prospects

    Abstract
A microgrid is a controllable component of the smart grid defined as a part of distribution network capable of supplying its own local load even in the case of disconnection from the upstream network. Microgrids incorporate large amount of renewable and non-renewable distributed generation (DG) that are connected to the system either directly or by power electronics (PE) interface. The diversity of technologies used in DGs and loads, high penetration of DGs, economic operation of DGs, dynamics of low-inertia conventional DGs and PE interfaced inertialess DGs and smart operation by means of enhanced communication infrastructure have raised challenges in widespread utilization of microgrids as...

    Abstract
Scheduling under nonrenewable resources is one of the challenging issues in project scheduling problems. There are many cases where the projects are subject to some nonrenewable resources. In most of the literature, nonrenewable resources are assumed to be available in full amount at the beginning of the project. However, in practice, it is prevalent that these resources are procured along the project horizon. This paper studies the generalized resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) where, in addition to renewable resources, nonrenewable resources are considered, such as budget or consuming materials by the project activities. As the problem is NP-hard, some sub-algorithm...

A practical eco-environmental distribution network planning model including fuel cells and non-renewable distributed energy resources

    , Article Renewable Energy ; Volume 36, Issue 1 , 2011 , Pages 179-188 ; 09601481 (ISSN) Soroudi, A ; Ehsan, M ; Zareipour, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents a long-term dynamic multi-objective planning model for distribution network expansion along with distributed energy options. The proposed model optimizes two objectives, namely costs and emissions and determines the optimal schemes of sizing, placement and specially the dynamics (i.e., timing) of investments on distributed generation units and network reinforcements over the planning period. An efficient two-stage heuristic method is proposed to solve the formulated planning problem. The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated by applying it to a distribution network and comparing the simulation results with other methods and models
