Non-equilibrium model of gravity drainage in a single block

    , Article Journal of Porous Media ; Vol. 16, issue. 6 , 2013 , p. 559-571 ; ISSN: 1091028X Jahanbakhshi, S ; Ghazanfari, M. H ; Masihi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This work concerns with developing a non-equilibrium model of gravity drainage in a single block. The proposed model which considers both non-equilibrium effects of capillary pressure and relative permeabilities is used for prediction of oil recovery by gravity drainage from a single block. Close agreement observed between the model results and experimental data disclosed that the non-equilibrium assumption is completely reliable for modeling of gravity drainage. The results revealed that when the characteristic time of the saturation variation is comparable with the time required to establish capillary equilibrium, the non-equilibrium effects in gravity drainage must be considered. The...

Onset of convection in a horizontal porous channel with uniform heat generation using a thermal nonequilibrium model

    Abstract
This paper considers the onset of free convection in a horizontal fluid-saturated porous layer with uniform heat generation. Attention is focused on cases where the fluid and solid phases are not in local thermal equilibrium, and where two energy equations describe the evolution of the temperature of each phase. Standard linearized stability theory is used to determine how the criterion for the onset of convection varies with the inter-phase heat transfer coefficient, H, and the porosity-modified thermal conductivity ratio, γ. We also present asymptotic solutions for small values of H. Excellent agreement is obtained between the asymptotic and the numerical results. © Springer...

Equilibrium and non-equilibrium gas–liquid two phase flow in long and short pipelines following a rupture

    Abstract
The two-phase flow following the blowdown of pipeline carrying flashing liquid is numerically investigated by using thermodynamic equilibrium and non-equilibrium models. Model equations are solved numerically by the finite volume method. The values of fluxes at cell boundaries are obtained by AUSM+-up. To obtain proper values for the coefficients of dissipation, both single phase liquid and two phase shock tube problems are investigated. The transient release from the pressurized pipeline is studied for two cases of long and short pipes. Comparison of the predictions against experimental data reveals non-equilibrium model performs a little better than equilibrium model in the prediction of...
