    Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for mean square asymptotic reference tracking of nonlinear dynamic systems over Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel. The nonlinear dynamic system has periodic outputs and sinusoidal inputs and is cascaded with a bandpass filter acting as an encoder. By using the describing function method, the nonlinear dynamic system is represented by an equivalent linear dynamic system. Then, for this system, a mean square asymptotic reference tracking technique, including an encoder, a decoder, and a controller, is presented. It is shown that the proposed reference tracking technique results in mean square asymptotic reference tracking of nonlinear dynamic...

    Abstract
Objective: Spine kinematics, kinetics, and trunk muscle activities were evaluated during different stages of a fatigue-induced symmetric lifting task over time. Background: Due to neuromuscular adaptations, postural behaviors of workers during lifting tasks are affected by fatigue. Comprehensive aspects of these adaptations remain to be investigated. Method: Eighteen volunteers repeatedly lifted a box until perceived exhaustion. Body center of mass (CoM), trunk and box kinematics, and feet center of pressure (CoP) were estimated by a motion capture system and force-plate. Electromyographic (EMG) signals of trunk/abdominal muscles were assessed using linear and nonlinear approaches. The L5-S1...

    Abstract
This article addresses the stabilization of noiseless nonlinear dynamic systems over limited capacity communication channels. It is shown that the stability of nonlinear dynamic systems over memory-less communication channels implies an inequality condition between the Shannon channel capacity and the summation of the positive equilibrium Lyapunov exponents of the dynamic system or, equivalently, the logarithms of the magnitude of the unstable eigenvalues of system Jacobian. Furthermore, we propose an encoder, decoder, and a controller to prove that scalar nonlinear dynamic systems are stabilizable under the aforementioned inequality condition over the digital noiseless and the packet...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gazori, Fereshteh (Author) ; Hesaaraki, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, a complete analysis of a general within-host models of malaria is done. This model generalizes the models in epidemiological literature. In this study, we propose another equation for immune effectors reaction. In this thesis, we find out that the global stability of disease free equilibrium is obtained when the reproduction number R0 < 1. When R0 ≥ 1, at least one endemic equilibrium exists. The local and global asymptotic stability is investigated. Finally, numerical simulations are done to illustrate the influence of immune effectors reaction

Fuzzy Statistical Interpretation of Linear Dynamic System Reliability

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salehi, Hojat Allah (Author) ; Sadati, Nasser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reliability analysis in engineering systems is one of important parts in design stage. Stress-Strength method is a method for reliability analysis in engineering systems. To obtain reliability, stress and strength distribution functions should be known, but these functions depend on design parameters and mostly these parameters are unknown. Usually obtaining exact stress and strength distributions is difficult and there is some uncertainty in distribution functions and their parameters. Also, weakness and uncertainty in data makes it difficult to calculate exact stress and strength distributions. In the case, when data is weak, results in point estimation methods (for example Maximum...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi Dolatabad, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Khayyat, Amir Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Pasharavesh, Abdolreza (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Investigation of possible vibratory responses of dynamical systems around their stable equilibria is an essential step which must be taken before their both design and application. The attained results of such a study can largely help to prevent instability in closed-loop stabilized systems by avoiding excitation of the system in the neighborhood of its resonance. In this paper, nonlinear oscillations of a Rotary Inverted Pendulum (RIP) enjoying a full-state feedback controller is investigated. Lagrange’s equations are employed to derive an accurate 2-DoF mathematical model whose parameters are extracted by both measurement and 3D modeling of the real system components. The perturbative...

A systematic decomposition approach of nonlinear systems by combining gap metric and stability margin

    , Article Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control ; Volume 43, Issue 9 , 2021 , Pages 2006-2017 ; 01423312 (ISSN) Ahmadi, M ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, in order to control a nonlinear dynamic system via multi-model controller, we propose a systematic approach to determine the nominal local linear models. These models are selected from the local models bank and results in a reduced nominal models set that provides enough information to design a multi-model controller. To determine the initial local models bank, gap metric is used so that the distance between two successive local models is smaller than a threshold value. Then, a systematic approach that aims to get a reduced nominal models bank is developed. Based on this approach, first, a binary gap matrix is defined by combining gap metric and stability information. Then,...

A history-dependent stochastic predator-prey model: Chaos and its elimination

    , Article European Physical Journal B ; Volume 13, Issue 3 , 2000 , Pages 601-606 ; 14346028 (ISSN) Gerami, R ; Ejtehadi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer New York  2000
    Abstract
A non-Markovian stochastic predator-prey model is introduced in which the prey are immobile plants and predators are diffusing herbivors. The model is studied by both mean-field approximation (MFA) and computer simulations. The MFA results a series of bifurcations in the phase space of mean predator and prey densities, leading to a chaotic phase. Because of emerging correlations between the two species distributions, the interaction rate alters and if it is chosen to be the value which is obtained from the simulation, then the chaotic phase disappears

Estimation of nonlinear dynamic systems over communication channels

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control ; Volume 63, Issue 9 , 2018 , Pages 3024-3031 ; 00189286 (ISSN) Sanjaroon, V ; Farhadi, A ; Motahari, A. S ; Khalaj, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2018
    Abstract
Remote observation of the state trajectory of nonlinear dynamic systems over limited capacity communication channels is studied. It is shown that two extreme cases are possible: Either the system is fully observable or the error in estimation blows up. The key observation is that such behavior is determined by the relationship between the Shannon capacity and the Lyapunov exponents; the well-known characterizing parameters of a communication channel on one side, and a dynamic system from the other side. In particular, it is proved that for nonlinear systems with initial state x0, the minimum capacity of an additive white Gaussian noise channel required for full observation of the system in...

    Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for almost sure asymptotic state tracking, stability and reference tracking of nonlinear dynamic systems by remote controller over the packet erasure channel, which is an abstract model for transmission via WiFi and the Internet. By implementing a suitable linearization method, a proper encoder and decoder are presented for tracking the state trajectory of nonlinear systems at the end of communication link when the measurements are sent through the packet erasure channel. Then, a controller for reference tracking of the system is designed. In the proposed technique linearization is applied when the error between the states and an estimate of these states...

    Abstract
In this thesis, partitioning of multi inputs nonlinear dynamical systems into distinct subsystems with the goal of designing decentralized, distributed, and cooperative predictive controllers for reducing the computational load and time in practical implementations has been studied. At first, the concept of dynamical systems graph is introduced and the problem of decomposing nonlinear dynamical systems into distinct subsystems has been converted to the problem of decomposing dynamical systems graph into separate subgraphs. The proposed method for decomposition of the dynamical system graph is represented as a linear integer optimization programing where the separated subgraphs is obtained by...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Parsa, Ali (Author) ; Farhadi, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Abstract: In this dissertation, the problem of tracking and stabilization of nonlinear dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel is addressed. Using the idea of linearization of nonlinear system around current working point, and by the design of an encoder, decoder, and controller for the linearized system, state tracking and reference tracking of the nonlinear system are addressed. To prove the traking and stability of the system, the strong law of large numbers and the dwell time approach are used. By computer simulations, the theoretical development is applied on the nonlinear dynamic of the unicycle model, which is a suitable model for autonomous vehicles, such as drones, unmanned...

Stochastic robust hybrid observer with applications to automotive slip angle estimation

    Abstract
In this article, the state estimation for Automotive Slip Angle considering the measurement noise in sensor is addressed. Realtime measurement of the slip angle is applicable to many active vehicle safety applications, such as rollover prevention and yaw stability control. As the sensors that measure slip angle directly are expensive, the method to extract slip angle from other available sensors in vehicle is considered. First from the simplified nonlinear dynamic system of vehicle, a Piecewise Affine (PWA) model with calculated uncertainties is obtained. The uncertainties are the result of nonlinear system deviation from PWA model. Then using the PWA model, a Stochastic Robust Hybrid...

    Abstract
This paper introduces a novel approach for tuning the parameters of the adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). In the commonly used training methods, the antecedent and consequent parameters of ANFIS are trained by gradient-based algorithms and recursive least square method, respectively. In this study, a new swarm-based meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, so-called "Cat Swarm Optimization", is used in order to train the antecedent part parameters and gradient descent algorithm is applied for training the consequent part parameters. Experimental results for prediction of Mackey-Glass model and identification of two nonlinear dynamic systems reveal that the performance of...

    Abstract
In this work, a powerful analytical method, called Liao's homotopy analysis method is used to study the limit cycle of a two-dimensional nonlinear dynamical system, namely the van der Pol oscillator with delayed amplitude limiting. It is shown that the solutions are valid for a wide range of variation of the system parameters. Comparison of the obtained solutions with those achieved by numerical solutions and by other perturbation techniques shows that the utilized method is effective and convenient to solve this type of problems with the desired order of approximation

Stability analysis of distributed-order nonlinear dynamic systems

    Abstract
The problem of asymptotic stability analysis of equilibrium points in nonlinear distributed-order dynamic systems with non-negative weight functions is considered in this paper. The Lyapunov direct method is extended to be used for this stability analysis. To this end, at first, a discretisation scheme with convergence property is introduced for distributed-order dynamic systems. Then, on the basis of this tool, Lyapunov theorems are proved for asymptotic stability analysis of equilibrium points in distributed-order systems. As the order weight function assumed for the distributed-order systems is general enough, the results are applicable to a wide range of nonlinear distributed-order...

Dynamic Texture Segmentation in Video Sequences

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Yousefi, Sahar (Author) ; Manzuri Shalmani, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Video segmentation means grouping of pixels of the video sequences into spatio-temporal regions which exhibit coherence in both appearance and motion. Due to complexity and spatio-temporal variations, dynamic texture segmentation is a one of the most challenging task in video processing. The problem of dynamic texture segmentation has received considerable attention due to the explosive growth of its applications in video analysis and surveillance systems. In this thesis, two novel approaches have been proposed. The first proposed method is based on generative Dynamic texture models (DTMs) which represent videos as a linear dynamical system. Since DTMs cannot be used for complex videos which...
