Theoretical and experimental investigation of density jump on an inclined surface

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Vol. 21, Issue. 5 , 2014 , pp. 1655-1665 ; ISSN :1026-3098 Najafpour, N ; Sarnie, M ; Firoozabadi, B ; Afshin, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The density jump on an inclined surface is analyzed using an integral method by applying mass and momentum conservation equations. The jump occurs in a two-layered fluid flow in which the upper layer is stagnant and very deep. A relation is derived, which gives the conjugate depth ratio as a function of inlet densimetric Froude number, inlet concentration ratio, bed slope and entrainment. A set of experiments are performed to verify the relation. The theory and the measurements are in good agreement. The analysis reveals that increasing the surface inclination results in a decrease in the conjugate depth ratio. This analysis also shows that the densimetric Froude number just after the jump...

Effect of entrance position on particle dispersion in the vortex engine

    , Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings (IMECE), 12 November 2010 through 18 November 2010 ; Volume 7, Issue PARTS A AND B , 2010 , Pages 1103-1110 ; 9780791844441 (ISBN) Dehghani, S. R ; Saidi, M. H ; Mozafari, A. A ; Ghafourian, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Particle dispersion in the vortex flow has been one of the most interesting subjects in recent years. Bidirectional vortex flow field is an industrial sample of the rotating flow which is used to obtain advantages of better mixing and combustion. In this work penetration and dispersion quality of the particles which are entering from various positions on the vortex engine walls have been numerically predicted. Head side, end side, and sidewall are considered as the entering positions. The particle has been assumed to be a rigid sphere. Initial velocity, diameter, and density of entering the particles are assumed to be known. If the particle length scale is considered not to be comparable...

Kinetic parameters evaluation of PWRs using static cell and core calculation codes

    , Article Annals of Nuclear Energy ; Volume 41 , 2012 , Pages 110-114 ; 03064549 (ISSN) Jahanbin, A ; Malmir, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, evaluation of the kinetic parameters (effective delayed neutron fraction and prompt neutron lifetime) in PWRs, using static cell and core calculation codes, is reported. A new software has been developed to link the WIMS, BORGES and CITATION codes in Visual C# computer programming language. Using the WIMS cell calculation code, multigroup microscopic cross-sections and number densities of different materials can be generated in a binary file. By the use of BORGES code, these binary-form cross-sections and number densities are converted to a format readable by the CITATION core calculation code, by which the kinetic parameters can be finally obtained. This software is used for...

Mass assembly history of dark matter haloes in the light of H0tension

    Abstract
The Hubble tension may introduce a new course of action to revise the standard Lambda cold dark matter (ΛCDM) model to unravel dark energy and dark matter physics. The Hubble parameter can be reconstructed by late-time observations of the background evolution model independently. We relate the reconstructed Hubble parameter to the structure formation and large-scale structure observables in this work. We use excursion set theory to calculate the number density of dark matter haloes and the mass function of progenitors. We obtain results for both the Markov and non-Markov extensions of excursion set theory in the context of spherical and ellipsoidal collapse. We show that the number density...
