The investigation of Odor Producing Factors in Kish Island Refineries and Sewage Collection System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamali, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Hashemian, Jamal (Supervisor)
    Abstract
From the main factors causing an unpleasant odor can refer to indoles, askatels, mercaptans, some volatile organic compounds, sulfide hydrogen, ammonia, and the number of odor-causing compounds, which are also found in the wastewater facilities and sometimes produce unpleasant odors. Meanwhile, ammonia (Pungent and irritating odor) and sulfide hydrogen (colorless poisonous gas with the odor of rotten eggs) can be presented as major factors in sewage odor.
Several factors are involved in the foul-smelling hydrogen sulfide gas collection system and wastewater treatment. A few of them include numerous sewage pumping stations, selected the appropriate gradient in the collection system,...

Developing a two-stage procedure for Estimating Origin-Destination matrix based on routes and traffic volumes

    , Article IEOM 2015 - 5th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management, Proceeding, 3 March 2015 through 5 March 2015 ; 2015 ; 9781479960651 (ISBN) Mahmoudabadi, A ; Mahmoudabadi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Estimating Origin-Destination matrix, named O-D matrix or ODM, is an important issue in transportation planning. Due to need to survey movements on the network, estimating ODM is usually considered as a high-cost measure in transportation planning. In this research work, a two-stage procedure, including solving routing problem and minimizing the difference between observed and estimated traffic volumes on the network, has been developed to estimate the O-D matrix elements. At the first stage, routing problem is solved to determine paths while in the second stage an absolute error function has been defined to determine the number of trips from each origin to destination pairs. The procedure...

Automated trace determination of earthy-musty odorous compounds in water samples by on-line purge-and-trap-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

    Abstract
An automated technique based on purge-and-trap coupled to gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection has been developed and optimized for the trace determination of five of the most important water odorants; 2-isopropyl-3-methoxypyrazine, 2-isobutyl-3-methoxypyrazine, 2-methylisoborneol, 2,4,6-trichloroanisole and geosmin. The extraction method was absolutely solvent-free. Analytes were purged from 20 ml of water sample containing sodium chloride at room temperature by a flow of He and trapped on a Tenax sorbent. The desorption step was performed with helium and temperature programming and desorbed analytes were directly transferred to a gas chromatograph coupled to a mass...
