Modeling of two-phase flow in porous media with heat generation

    , Article International Journal of Multiphase Flow ; Volume 69 , March , 2015 , Pages 115-127 ; 03019322 (ISSN) Taherzadeh, M ; Saidi, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The main purpose of this work is investigation of coolability of a boiling debris bed. The main governing equations are derived using volume averaging technique. From this technique some specific interfacial areas between phases are appeared and proper relations for modeling these areas are proposed. Using these specific areas, a modification for the Tung/Dhir model in the annular flow regime is proposed. The proposed modification is validated and the agreements with experimental data are good. Finally, governing equations and relations are implemented in the THERMOUS program to model two-phase flow in the debris bed in the axisymmetric cylindrical coordinate. Two typical configurations...

Swirl intensity as a control mechanism for methane purification in supersonic gas separators

    Abstract
Supersonic gas separator is proposed for methane purification. One-dimensional analysis is performed to examine the design aspects associated with the converging-diverging nozzle and the liquid separation chamber. The results indicate that at low swirl intensities, the separation chamber length is about 100 times of the nozzle throat. Increasing the swirl intensity would lower this length sharply and it will be less than 10 for swirl intensity of unity which is equivalent to a swirl angle of 45°. In addition, a sensitivity analysis of the separator performance to the inlet conditions like the temperature, pressure, and composition of the mixture is carried out. It is observed that increasing...

    Abstract
This paper aims to study the soil dynamics characteristics of central part of Shiraz city near the monument of Persepolis, southwest of Iran. The parameter investigated is natural period of soil sediment. The technique used to obtain this parameter is microtremor measurements. Microtremor measurements were obtained at 120 stations in the city. The data was recorded for two periods of fifteen minutes. Segmental Cross Spectra were applied to calculate spectra. Nakamura's method (H/V) was used for analyzing the measured data. At each site, natural period values were obtained. Because of low accuracy of amplification factors that achieved by microtremor measurements, this factor is neglected in...
