    Abstract
    In this paper, we present a thorough analysis based on photon-counting techniques on temporal/spatial fiber-optic code-division multiple-access systems incorporating both post- and pre-optical amplifiers. In this analysis, we consider the effect of shot noise, thermal noise, and source extinction on system bit-error rate. Our results can be used to estimate the maximum tolerable amount of quantum fluctuations in the received signal

    Abstract
    In this paper, the authors study the performance of a two-photon absorption (TPA) receiver in a typical communication system employing an optical amplifier. For the study, the authors develop a comprehensive performance analysis, taking into account noises due to an optical amplifier, shot noise, and thermal noise, using Gaussian approximation technique. In evaluating the performance of the system using this technique, the mean and the variance of the received signal will be derived.     Abstract
    A communication system incorporating a bit rate limiter (BRL) device is analyzed using recently proposed statistical models for power splitters and combiners. We also consider the possible optical attenuation and amplification before and after BRL device. We obtain the total output moment generating function (MGF) of the number of photoelectrons at the receiver end for two possible synchronization procedures.     In this paper, we study and elaborate on the architectural consideration of using multiple optical amplifiers in an all-optical fiber-optic code-division multiple-access (FO-CDMA) network. Our study and considerations are based on obtaining the statistical characteristic functions for photon-counts of a string of output pulses that constitutes the address code in a FO-CDMA network. Optical orthogonal codes (OOCs) with minimum auto- and cross correlation are employed as the address or signature sequence codes.     Fading and path loss are the major challenges in practical deployment of free space optical communication systems. In this paper, a cooperative free space communication via an optical amplify-and-forward relay is considered to deal with these challenges. We use photon counting approach to investigate the system bit error probability (BEP) performance and study the effects of atmospheric turbulence, background light, amplified spontaneous emission, and receiver thermal noise on the system performance.     In this thesis, we statistically model and analyze one of the main systems in optical communications which are based on Second HarmonicGeneration (SHG) process. To this end, we first introduce various applications of this process in optical communication systems and see that the main application of this nonlinear process is in the process of optical clock recovery in both of OTDM and SPE_OCDMA networks.
