A new method for multi-objective optimal design of milling parameters by considering chatter vibrations

    , Article 2019 SAE Automotive Technical Papers, WONLYAUTO 2019, 1 January 2019 through 1 January 2019 ; Volume 2019-January, Issue January , 2019 ; 01487191 (ISSN) Jafarzadeh, E ; Khodaygan, S ; Sohani, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The desired milling process with high material removal rate (MRR) and low surface roughness of the product can be achieved only if machining chatter is absent. Incorporating chatter into the optimal selection of the machining parameters leads to a complex problem. Therefore, the approach of selecting conservative intervals for the machining parameters is usually employed instead. In this paper, a practical approach is proposed to specify the optimal machining parameters (depth of cut and spindle speed) in order to maximize MRR and minimize forced vibrations by considering machining chatter. Firstly, the worst-case scenario-based optimization problem in terms of the surface quality is solved...

Improving blood bank inventory management using double cross-match and hybrid issuance policy

    , Article 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications, ICIEA 2020, 16 April 2020 through 21 April 2020 ; 2020 , Pages 819-826 Bozorgi, A ; Najafi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Blood availability in hospitals is of high humanitarian importance, thus blood shortage is not desired at all. High wastage rate of blood in hospitals is an important issue, which becomes more important as the standards of health care services becomes higher. In order to address blood shortage and wastage issues in a hospital, this paper develops a new inventory management model as a decision making tool to help making tactical and operational level decisions for a Hospital Blood Bank (HBB) inventory management. These decisions include issuance and ordering policy and the aim of the model is to reduce blood wastage and shortage. For this purpose, a multi period, multi-product inventory...

Resiliency-oriented optimal siting and sizing of distributed energy resources in distribution systems

    Abstract
Distribution systems are one of the most important infrastructures of each country which are exposed to numerous damages through unexpected events. The development of distributed energy resources (DERs) is one of the solutions which can bring several benefits to the operation and planning of distribution systems in both normal and event situations. This paper proposes a new multi-objective planning model for optimal siting and sizing of DERs in distribution systems to minimize the total planning costs including operation and active power loss costs, as the normal operation objective, and to minimize the expected prioritized load shedding exposed to an earthquake incident, as the resilience...

    Abstract
This paper presents an improved stochastic simulation method for calculating current dependent energy losses in distribution networks. The method is based on power load curves and integrates the stochastic nature of the load curves with power and voltage covariance matrices. The method reduces calculation effort using the factor analysis of covariance matrices and provides a few quantities needed to calculate energy losses. The method has no limitation for network configuration and gives accurate results several times faster than other existing methods. Therefore, it is appropriate for considering losses in optimization and decision making purposes in operating and planning of distribution...

    Abstract
Power electronics is becoming an underpinning technology for modern power systems. Power converters are increasingly used in various applications implying different levels of importance in power systems. Hence, optimal decision-making for manufacturing, control, operation and maintenance of them requires understanding of their importance in the power systems. Furthermore, identifying the converters importance may be beneficial for simplifying the system-level reliability modeling in a large Power Electronic based Power Systems (PEPSs). Thereby, a Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) approach is proposed in this paper in order to figure out the importance of converters in...

A discrete differential evolution with local search particle swarm optimization to direct angle and aperture optimization in IMRT treatment planning problem

    Abstract
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy is a well-known technique for treating cancer patients worldwide. A treatment plan in this technique requires decision-making for three main problems: selection of beam angles, intensity map calculation, and leaf sequencing. Previous works investigated these problems sequentially. We present a new integrated framework for simultaneous decision-making of directions, intensities, and aperture shape, called direct angle and aperture optimization, and develop a mixed-integer nonlinear mathematical model for the problem. Due to the nonlinearity and the dimension of the problem, three efficient metaheuristics based on differential evolution (DE) called classic...
