Optimal configuration of dual-arm cam-lock robot based on task-space manipulability

    , Article Robotica ; Volume 27, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 13-18 ; 02635747 (ISSN) Ghaemi Osgouie , K ; Meghdari, A ; Sohrabpour, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper obtaining the optimal configuration of the dual-arm cam-lock (DACL) robot at a specific point is addressed. The objective is to optimize the applicable task-space force in a desired direction. The DACL robot is a reconfigurable manipulator formed by two parallel cooperative arms. The arms normally operate redundantly but when needed, they can lock into each other in certain joints in order to achieve a higher stiffness, while losing some degrees of freedom. Furthermore, the dynamics of the DACL robot is discussed and parametrically formulated. Considering the geometrical constraints at a given point in the robot's workspace, the optimum configuration for maximizing the...

Site specific optimization of wind turbines energy cost: Iterative approach

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 73 , September , 2013 , Pages 167-175 ; 01968904 (ISSN) Rezaei Mirghaed, M ; Roshandel, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The present study was aimed at developing a model to optimize the sizing parameters and farm layout of wind turbines according to the wind resource and economic aspects. The proposed model, including aerodynamic, economic and optimization sub-models, is used to achieve minimum levelized cost of electricity. The blade element momentum theory is utilized for aerodynamic modeling of pitch-regulated horizontal axis wind turbines. Also, a comprehensive cost model including capital costs of all turbine components is considered. An iterative approach is used to develop the optimization model. The modeling results are presented for three potential regions in Iran: Khaf, Ahar and Manjil. The optimum...

Integration of CFD and Nelder-Mead algorithm for optimization of MOCVD process in an atmospheric pressure vertical rotating disk reactor

    , Article International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer ; Volume 43 , April , 2013 , Pages 138-145 ; 07351933 (ISSN) Abedi, S ; Farhadi, F ; Boozarjomehry, R. B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this work, optimization of metalorganic chemical vapor deposition process for uniform layer thickness with especial attention to reactor geometric parameters as decision variables is presented. A numerical solution to a steady thermal flow associated with multi-species and chemical reactions in atmospheric pressure axisymmetrical rotating disk reactor by the CFD technique is obtained. Such a simulation is conducted on the assumption that the low Mach number flow is laminar. Then the validation of the numerical results with the benchmark solutions is conducted. Finally, integrating the CFD simulator with an optimization program, based on the Nelder-Mead algorithm, as a new approach is...

    Abstract
In this article, a solar absorption chiller used in MehrAbad region of Tehran, Iran is optimized with exergoeconomic principles and genetic algorithm. After optimizing, a storage system with Phase Change Material technique (PCM) is designed for this optimum configuration for supporting system when sunshine is not received adequately, especially at night. Exergoeconomic analysis is based on finding some ways to improving the performance of a thermal system considering economic constrains. In this study, the exergoeconomic optimization is applied for LiBr-water absorption. The results show that total investment cost of main system, the whole of system except storage system, has increased...

Efficient geometry of surface plasmon resonance based fiber optic sensor

    , Article 2018 IEEE 38th International Conference on Electronics and Nanotechnology, ELNANO 2018 - Proceedings, 24 April 2018 through 26 April 2018 ; 2018 , Pages 351-354 ; 9781538663837 (ISBN) Abedini, M ; Ahmadi, M ; Mohammadpour, R ; Sasanpour, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The efficient structure for optical fiber based surface Plasmon resonance sensor has been investigated. The sensor structure is based on removing the cladding of a multimode optical fiber and replacing it with thin film of gold. The incident light inside the fiber will excite surface plasmons which will be resulted in the absorption in specific wavelengths. The absorption behavior is dependent on the dielectric constants at the vicinity of the metallic thin film. Based on the amount of removed cladding and deposition regions on the core structure of the fiber, different configurations can be considered. Based on the computational analysis, we have studied performance of sensor for three...

Robust restoration of distribution systems considering DG units and direct load control programs

    Abstract
This paper presents a new method for restoration of distribution networks after a fault occurrence. This problem is solved from the viewpoint of the distribution system operator with the main goal of minimizing the operating cost during the fault clearance period. The effects of distributed generation (DG) units and direct load control (DLC) programs are considered in designing the proposed restoration procedure. Moreover, the uncertainties associated with the predicted loads of different nodes and the availability of DG are modeled here. Robust optimization is used to model the uncertainties of restoration problems and manage their associated risks. Finally, a robust reconfiguration plan is...
