    Abstract
The purposes of this paper are determination of the current density and safety factor profiles, J(r) and q(r), in IR-T1 tokamak. For these purposes, a diamagnetic loop with its compensation coil, and also an array of magnetic probes were designed, constructed, and installed on outer surface of the IR-T1 tokamak chamber, and then the poloidal beta and poloidal and radial magnetic fields measured. Moreover, a few approximate values of the internal inductance for the different possible profiles of the plasma current density are also calculated. From the results, current density and q-profiles obtained

Static and vibrational analysis of fullerene using a newly designed spherical super element

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 19, Issue 5 , 2012 , Pages 1316-1323 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Nasiri Sarvi, M ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Accurate prediction of static and dynamic response of nano structures under external excitations has been one of the interests of scientists in the last decade. Several applications of nano machines make it necessary to analyze their components, such as nano bearing, precisely. In this paper, the static and vibrational behavior of a fullerene as a sensitive part of nano bearing under external forces is simulated by a newly designed spherical super element. This super element is designed in such a way that the user can select as many numbers of nodes as desired, so that it can be implemented in different desired precisions. In this study, a 228-node super element, which is similar to a hollow...

Thermo-mechanical analysis of rotating disks with non-uniform thickness and material properties

    , Article International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping ; Volume 98 , October , 2012 , Pages 95-101 ; 03080161 (ISSN) Hassani, A ; Hojjati, M. H ; Mahdavi, E ; Alashti, R. A ; Farrahi, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Theoretical and numerical analyses of rotating disks with non-uniform thickness and material properties subjected to thermo-mechanical loadings have been carried out by variable material properties (VMP), Runge-Kutta's (RK) and finite element (FE) methods. The material is assumed to be elastic-linear hardening. A power form function is used to describe the temperature gradient with the higher temperature at outer surface. Von-Mises theory has been used as failure criterion. The effects of geometry, material and thermal loading parameters as well as boundary conditions on radial, hoop and equivalent stress distributions which have not been studied in much detail in previous works have been...

Surface/interface effects on elastic behavior of a screw dislocation in an eccentric core-shell nanowire

    , Article International Journal of Solids and Structures ; Volume 49, Issue 13 , 2012 , Pages 1665-1675 ; 00207683 (ISSN) Ahmadzadeh Bakhshayesh, H ; Gutkin, M.Y ; Shodja, H. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The elastic behavior of a screw dislocation which is positioned inside the shell domain of an eccentric core-shell nanowire is addressed with taking into account the surface/interface stress effect. The complex potential function method in combination with the conformal mapping function is applied to solve the governing non-classical equations. The dislocation stress field and the image force acting on the dislocation are studied in detail and compared with those obtained within the classical theory of elasticity. It is shown that near the free outer surface and the inner core-shell interface, the non-classical solution for the stress field considerably differs from the classical one, while...

Three-dimensional elasticity analysis of functionally graded rotating cylinders with variable thickness profile

, Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science ; Volume 226, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 585-594 ; 09544062 (ISSN) Ghafoori, E ; Asghari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A three-dimensional elasticity solution for the analysis of functionally graded rotating cylinders with variable thickness profile is proposed. The axisymmetric structure has been divided in several divisions in the radial direction. Constant mechanical properties and thickness profile are assumed within each division. The solution is considered for four different thickness profiles, namely constant, linear, concave, and convex. It is shown that the linear, concave, and convex thickness profiles have smaller stress values compared to a constant thickness profile. The effects of various grading indices as well as different boundary conditions, namely solid, free-free hollow and fixed-free...

Creep damage evaluation of thick-walled spheres using a long-term creep constitutive model

    , Article Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology ; Volume 23, Issue 10 , 2009 , Pages 2577-2582 ; 1738494X (ISSN) Loghman, A ; Shokouhi, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper describes a numerical model developed for the computation of creep damages in a thick-walled sphere subjected to an internal pressure and a thermal gradient. The model predicts the creep damage histories during the life of the sphere, owing to variations in stresses with time and through-thickness variations. The creep damage fraction is based on the Robinson's linear life fraction damage rule, which has been incorporated in a nonlinear time-dependent stress analysis. Following the stress histories, the effective stress histories are obtained and the creep damages are calculated and summed during the life of the sphere. The material long-term creep properties up to the rupture and...

    , Article Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation ; Volume 17, Issue 9 , 2012 , Pages 3747-3762 ; 10075704 (ISSN) Hassani, A ; Hojjati, M. H ; Farrahi, G. H ; Alashti, R. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, distributions of stress and strain components of rotating disks with non-uniform thickness and material properties subjected to thermo-elasto-plastic loading are obtained by semi-exact method of Liao's homotopy analysis method (HAM) and finite element method (FEM). The materials are assumed to be elastic-linear strain hardening and isotropic. The analysis of rotating disk is based on Von Mises' yield criterion. A two dimensional plane stress analysis is used. The distribution of temperature is assumed to have power forms with the hotter point located at the outer surface of the disk. A mathematical technique of transformation has been proposed to solve the homotopy equations...

    , Article Composite Structures ; Volume 93, Issue 12 , 2011 , Pages 3239-3251 ; 02638223 (ISSN) Hassani, A ; Hojjati, M. H ; Farrahi, G ; Alashti, R. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, distributions of stress and strain components of rotating disks with non-uniform thickness and material properties subjected to thermo-elastic loading under different boundary conditions are obtained by semi-exact methods of Liao's homotopy analysis method (HAM), Adomian's decomposition method and He's variational iteration method (VIM). The materials are assumed to be perfectly elastic and isotropic. A two dimensional plane stress analysis is used. The distribution of temperature over the disk radius is assumed to have power forms with the higher temperature at the outer surface. The results of the three methods are compared with those obtained by Runge-Kutta's numerical...
