On the Parametric Study of Tall Buildings with Different Lateral Force Resisting Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jorjani, Abdullah (Author) ; Mofid, Massoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
General tall buildings consist of different types of structural systems, such as moment resisting frames, with and without shear walls, braces and outriggers. These types of structure have been widely analyzed by many researchers. However, only a few publications are available on the comparison of these structural systems with different stories. In this investigation five types of common structural systems including special moment resisting frame(SMRF), pin structure plus brace, pin structure plus shear wall, SMRF plus brace and SMRF plus shear wall are studied and by doing linear dynamic analysis, a criterion for both lateral displacement and steel tonnage of structures was presented....

Analysis of Tall Outrigger Braced Structures on Flexible Foundations Using Finite Elements Modeling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nezhadi, Siamak (Author) ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most efficient methods in stiffening tall buildings to withstand lateral loads such as wind loading is to link the shear resisting core to the exterior columns using outrigger trusses. Many tall buildings such as Taipei 101 have benefited from outriggers. In this system, the outriggers force the perimeter frame to take part in resisting the bending moment of the lateral load acting on the structure by developing axial restraining forces in the windward and the leeward columns of the perimeter frame and forming a resisting moment. Most of the present analytical methods have studied the performance of outrigger braced structures neglecting shear deformation of the shear wall core and...

Performance of Outrigger System in Tall Building and Comparison with other Lateral Bracing Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rashnooi, Reza (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Increasing the population of cities has led to the more construction of high-rise buildings. In design of high-rise buildings, stability of structure plays a significant role in its final design.According to the fourth edition of 2800 standard (The Iranian code of practice for seismic resistant design of buildings), for buildings with height of more than 50 meters, only using dual system and special moment resisting frame system is allowed, whose stability condition will increase the final cost of the structure. Systems such as outrigger system have been created to overcome this weakness. Outrigger is a rigid, horizontal system that is perpendicular to the shear core and connects the shear...

The Assessment of Irregular Mid-Rise Steel Structures with Outriggers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahdi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The system considered on this structure is for the design on mid-high Buildings from 15 and 20 floors above the base level and n floors below the base level and the limitation of the number of floors is due to the computer facility and restrictions. There is going to be an irregularity in some chosen floor at lower-floor, mid-floor, or upper-floor which is assuming one floor from the structure to have a different height with respect to the others. The height of the considered floor is going to increase up to 25% with respect to the other floors and the design of outriggers with these three assumptions is going to be assessed separately. In this system, a central core of steel is constructed...
