    Abstract
Optimized methods for simultaneous removal of nitrate, nitrite and ammonium are important features of nutrient removal. Nitrogen removal efficiency in an intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IA-SBR) with multiple filling events was studied. No external carbon source was added and three filling events were considered. Oxidationreduction potential (ORP) and pH curve at solids retention time (SRT) of 20 d were analyzed. Effects of three organic loading rates (OLR), 0.67, 1.0 and 1.5 kgCOD/m3d, and three nitrogen loading rates (NLR), 0.054, 0.1 and 0.15 kgN/m3d, on nitrogen removal were studied. Nitrate Apex in pH curve and Nitrate Knee in ORP profile indicated that the end of...

    Abstract
H2S and CO2 are the main impurities in raw natural gas, which needs to be purified before use. However, the comprehensive utilization of H2S and CO2 has been ignored. Herein, we proposed a fully resource-based method to convert toxic gas H2S and greenhouse gas CO2 synchronously into CO and elemental S by using a novel electrochemical reactor. The special designs include that, in the anodic chamber, H2S was oxidized rapidly to S based on the I−/I3− cyclic redox system to avoid anode passivation. On the other hand, in the cathodic chamber, CO2 was rapidly and selectively reduced to CO based on a porous carbon gas diffusion electrode (GDE) modified with polytetrafluoroethylene and cobalt...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zare Soheili, Hossein (Author) ; Gholami, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this projekt, nanophotocatalysts containing metal oxides and oxy-acids based on the nanoporous materials were synthesized. The photocatalytic properties of the prepared samples were evaluated by the photodegradation of day moleculs in photocatalytic systems. The catalytic results revealed that Ag3VO4/Cu-MOF/rGO exhibits noticeably an improvement in both efficiency and rate of AB92 photodegradation in comparison with the pure Ag3VO4. Using different scanning mechanisms for the catalytic properties of the synthesized nanocomposites, it was clearly demonstrated that the anionic superoxide plays a decisive role. Reduction of 4-NP in the presence of NaBH4 was also used to investigate...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Akbarzadeh Ferdosiehnezhad, Elham (Author) ; Gholami, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Rahman Setayesh, Shahbanoo (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In present study, various cocatalysts were used to improve catalytic properties of metal oxides and oxy-acids. Ag3VO4/Ag3PO4/Ag and Cu2O/MoS2/rGO photocatalysts were synthesized. The photocatalytic activities of the prepared nanocomposites were evaluated by the photodegradation of dye in the heterogenous systems as a series of advanced oxidation reactions. The results revealed that heterojunction between two semiconductors may prevent fast electron-hole pair recombination and then improve efficiency and rate of dye photodegradation. Mechanism and kinetics of dye degradation were studied in the presence of new photocatalysts by using of different scavengers. In the other works, Pt-NiO/G and...

    Abstract
Urea is a major source of nitrogen pollution in domestic sewage and its denitrification is difficult since it is very likely to be converted into ammonia or nitrate instead of expected N2. Herein, we propose an exhaustive denitrification method for urea via the oxidation of amine/ammonia-N with chlorine oxide radical, which induced from a bi-functional RuO2//WO3 anode, and the highly selective reduction of nitrate-N on cathode in photoelectrochemical cell (PEC). Under illumination, the WO3 photoanode side promotes the quantities hydroxyl and reactive chlorine radical, and these radicals are immediately combined to stronger chlorine oxide radical by RuO2 side, which obviously enhances the...

    Abstract
Micro arc oxidation was employed to grow TiO2/hydroxyapatite composite layer on titanium substrate. The correlation between electrolyte concentration, diameter and density of the pores in fabricated layers was investigated. Therefore, the effect of electrolyte concentration on composition and morphology of grown layers was studied using SEM, EDX, XRD and XPS techniques. Samples were coated in electrolytes containing 5, 10 and 15 g/l calcium acetate and 1, 3 and 5 g/l β-glycerophosphate, at optimized voltage for 3 min. Pore size variations obey a similar pattern by the addition of both calcium acetate and β-glycerophosphatein various concentrations based on SEM observations. However,...

    Abstract
In this study, an enzymatic pathway has been developed to replicate the Calvin Cycle by creating the individual steps of the carbon cycle in a bioreactor. The technology known as “artificial photosynthesis” converts CO2 emissions into a variety of intermediates that serve as precursors to high-value products. CO2, light, water, and electricity were used as feedstock. An electrochemical reactor was also studied for the regeneration of active NADH operating at constant electrode potential. Initially, a batch electrochemical reactor containing 80 mL of 0.2 mM NAD+ in Tris-buffer (pH 7.40) was used to evaluate the electrode material operating at normal temperature and pressure. The results...

    Abstract
Herein, we demonstrate a facile low temperature approach to prepare a gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) based on the triiodide/iodide redox couple in a quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). Only one polymeric agent (i.e., hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC)) is used for the preparation of a non-volatile GPE system for the standard liquid electrolyte containing 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide (MPII). The prepared GPE completely penetrates into a TiO2 photoanode at room temperature due to the uniform distribution of Ti, Ru and I elements in the cross-section of the electrode, forming an interpenetrating GPE/TiO2 network to access all dye molecules. The GPE with the optimum HPC : MPII...

    Abstract
Green tea-reduced graphene oxide (GT-rGO) sheets have been exploited for high efficiency near infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy of HT29 and SW48 colon cancer cells. The biocompatibility of GT-rGO sheets was investigated by means of MTT assays. The polyphenol constituents of GT-rGO act as effective targeting ligands for the attachment of rGO to the surface of cancer cells, as confirmed by the cell granularity test in flow cytometry assays and also by scanning electron microscopy. The photo-thermal destruction of higher metastatic cancer cells (SW48) is found to be more than 20% higher than that of the lower metastatic one (HT29). The photo-destruction efficiency factor of the GT-rGO is...
