    Abstract
The phase-pure multiple ternary or quaternary metal selenides in energy boosting, have not been reported yet. Here, self-supported porous crystalline Zn–Ni–Co/Cu selenides microballs arrays were constructed by selenation of the designed tubular Cu(OH)2 arrays decorated with ultrathin Zn–Co–Ni tri-metallic hydroxide on carbon cloth substrate. For this rational engineering, a novel precursor sample was firstly prepared by conversion of deposited Cu layer to hollow tubular Cu(OH)2 arrays on carbon cloth, then, Zn-Co–Ni layered ternary hydroxides with a thin layer structure was deposited around this tubular arrays. The selenation with an exciting morphology change from amorphous tube to highly...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Khaksar, Mostafa (Author) ; Mohammadi Boghaei, Davar (Supervisor) ; Amini, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the first part of this thesis, the application of metal oxide nanoparticles in oxidative degradation of methylene blue is discussed. Nanoparticles of manganese tungstate (MnWO4) were prepared via an impregnation method using Mn(NO3)2.4H2O and WO3 as a source of Mn and W, respectively. The morphology of the manganese tungstate nanoparticles was studied in detail by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). MnWO4 nanoparticles showed severe catalytic performance for the degradation of organic dye (methylene blue) in the presence of tertiary-butyl hydrogen peroxide, TBHP, as the oxidant at room temperature in water. Mn doped ZnO...

    Abstract
The magnetic MOF-based catalytic system has been reported here to be an efficient catalyst for running CDC reactions and synthesis of Triazole rings under optimal conditions. The robust MOF catalyst was built based on magnetic nanoparticles and HKUST-1 which further modified with thioacetamide and carbonization. The catalyst structure was confirmed by various techniques. Furthermore, the products’ yields were obtained in good to excellent for all reactions under mild conditions which result from superior activity of the synthesized heterogeneous catalyst containing Cupper. Also, the magnetic property of the MOF-based catalyst makes it easy to separate from reaction mediums and reuse in the...

    Abstract
The reaction pathway (including the transition state) of ethylene addition to permanganate (MnO4-) in the presence of ethylene glycol (EG) has been qualitatively and quantitatively studied by means of B3LYP/6-311++G* theoretical analysis. Interestingly, by cluster formation of the EG with permanganate, oxidation reaction becomes thermodynamically and kinetically more favorable. The influences of electron-withdrawing as well as electron-donating substituents were also explored. Results of the quantum theory of atoms in molecules and natural bond orbital analyses revealed that [3 + 2] addition reaction of alkenes in the presence of EG as hydrogen bonding donor to MnO4- becomes more exothermic....

    Abstract
In nature, catalysis is of vital importance in a wide variety of biochemical processes catalyzed by metalloenzymes. The functions performed by the metalloenzymes and their significance have inspired a range of biomimetic studies, and intense efforts have been concentrated on the synthesis of low molecular weight complexes to model the spectroscopic features of such enzymes. Concomitantly, a challenging frontier in the field of biomimetic chemistry is the development of highly reactive model compounds that are able to effect rapid and selective substrate conversion. Some important catalytic transformations that have gained attention in recent years involve the carbon-carbon coupling, olefin...

Design, fabrication and characterization of oxidized alginate-gelatin hydrogels for muscle tissue engineering applications

    Abstract
In this study, we reported the preparation of self cross-linked oxidized alginate-gelatin hydrogels for muscle tissue engineering. The effect of oxidation degree (OD) and oxidized alginate/gelatin (OA/GEL) weight ratio were examined and the results showed that in the constant OA/GEL weight ratio, both cross-linking density and Young's modulus enhanced by increasing OD due to increment of aldehyde groups. Furthermore, the degradation rate was increased with increasing OD probably due to decrement in alginate molecular weight during oxidation reaction facilitated degradation of alginate chains. MTT cytotoxicity assays performed on Wharton's Jelly-derived umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells...

    Abstract
The search for cathode materials with fast oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalytic activities and high ionic conductivity is the key obstacle to SOFCs commercialization and its operation at low temperatures. In order to search for a cathode with enhanced catalytic functionality, herein we report a single-phase CoFe2O4 (CFO) and CoGd0.2Fe1.80O4 (CGFO), which can be employed as an active cathode to improve electrocatalytic ORR functionalities at low temperature. It is found that CGFO having enriched oxygen vacancies exhibits the least polarization resistance (RP) of 0.42 Ωcm2 compared to the pure CFO which shows polarization resistance of 0.56 Ω cm2 under H2/air conditions. Furthermore,...

    Abstract
Over the last few years, substantial efforts have been made to develop earth-abundant bi-functional catalysts for urea oxidation and energy-saving electrolytic hydrogen production due to their low cost and the potential to replace traditional noble-metal-based catalysts. Nevertheless, finding a straightforward and effective route to prepare efficient catalysts with unique structural features and optimal supports still is a big challenge. Among the various candidates, metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived materials show great advantages as new kinds of active non-precious catalysts. On the other hand, the controllable integration of MOFs and carbon-based nanomaterials leads to further...
