Numerical Study of Oxygen Enrichment on NO Pollution Spread in an Ignition Chamber

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Orshesh, Zohreh (Author) ; Kazemzadeh Hannani, Siamak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, a 3D combustion chamber was simulated using FLUENT6.32. The objectives were to obtain detailed information on the combustion characteristics and NO formation in the furnace, and also to examine the effect of Oxygen enrichment on the combustion process. The combustion chamber has internal dimensions of 60 cm wide, 90 cm high and 190 cm long. The fuel pipe diameter is 1.25 cm and the air pipe diameter is 3.5 cm. The 3-D Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) equations together with standard k-ε turbulence model are solved by Fluent 6.3. Air/fuel flow rate ratio is varied as 1.3, 3.2 and 5.1 and the oxygen enriched flow rates are 28, 54, 68 lit/min. NO emission was...

Oxygen Enrichment of Air by Membrane Technology to Reduce Energy Consumption

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Akhavan, Morteza (Author) ; Bastani, Dariush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In various industries, for energy production, fossil fuels are burned. Oxygen needed for combustion, taken directly from the ambient air; So that the inert gas is about 80%. The presence of this inert gas, mainly nitrogen, reduce combustion efficiency and increase the use of combustible material. In this project with the help of membrane technology, was used to remove the amount of nitrogen in the air so that the incoming air into the combustion chamber is enriched with oxygen. For this purpose, several gas separation membrane was applied and evaluated. Then, according to the oxygen enrichment, fuel efficiency and the amount of savings, increasing chamber temperature, reduction manufacturing...

Impact of Oxygen-enriched Air Combustion by Membrane System on Performance of Diesel Engine and Air Pollutants Emission

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shoaee Maddah, AmirHossein (Author) ; Soltanieh, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Oxygen enriched combustion is one of the attractive combustion technologies to control pollution and improve combustion in diesel engines. In the present work after an introduction to membrane seperation and membrane seperators for oxygen-nitrogen from air, a simulation of combustion chamber by GT-Power and membrane COMSOL Multiphysics was used to study the impact of oxygen enrichment on combustion, pollution and performance parameters with 23, 25 and 27% levels of enrichment. Increasing the oxygen engine content with the air leads to faster burn rates and the ability to burn more fuel at the same stoichiometry. These effects have the potential to decrease specific fuel consumption and...
