    Abstract
    Quantum metrology calculates the ultimate precision of all estimation strategies, measuring what is their root-mean-square error (RMSE) and their Fisher information. Here, instead, we ask how many bits of the parameter we can recover; namely, we derive an information-theoretic quantum metrology. In this setting, we redefine "Heisenberg bound" and "standard quantum limit" (the usual benchmarks in the quantum estimation theory) and show that the former can be attained only by sequential strategies or parallel strategies that employ entanglement among probes, whereas parallel-separable strategies are limited by the latter.     Abstract
    The bronchial tree plays a main role in the human respiratory system because the air distribution throughout the lungs and gas exchange with blood occur in the airways whose dimensions vary from several centimeters to micrometers. Organization of about 60,000 conducting airways and 33 million respiratory airways in a limited space results in a complex structure. Due to this inherent complexity and a high number of airways, using target-oriented dimensional reduction is inevitable. In addition, there is no general reduced-order model for various types of problems.     Abstract
    This study presents a parallel evolutionary optimization approach to determine optimal management strategies of large-scale coastal groundwater problems. The population loops of evolutionary algorithms (EA) are parallelized using shared memory parallelism to address the high computational demands of such applications. This methodology is applied to solve the management problems in an aquifer system in Kish Island, Iran using a three-dimensional density-dependent groundwater numerical model.
