Individual Married Female Labor Supply: An Application of Parametric & Non-Parametric Econometric Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagheri Ghanbarabadi, Morteza (Author) ; Keshavarz Haddad, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Iranian female participation rate in the labor market of Iran in the recent decade shows a raising trend which amounted from 8% in 1999 to 18% in 2005. Using Parametric and Non-parametric econometrics Methods, in this research we aim to study the behavior of individual female labor supply. Our dataset consist of the annually budget survey of 2006 which is reported by statistical center of Iran. Our findings from parametric analysis show that the number of less than 6-years old children, non-labor income, husband’s income and geographic area (rural or urban district) are the main determinants of women’s participation in the labor market, and they affect negatively probability of the market...

Cost and Profit Efficiency of Iranian Banking Sector Using Parametric and Non-Parametric Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shekarchi, Ashkan (Author) ; Keshavarz Haddad, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, by employing DEA non-parametric and SFA parametric methods, the cost and profit efficiency of Iranian banking system are estimated in the period 2002-2007. Afterwards, the results are evaluated and analyzed via six aspects proposed in consistency conditions. Furthermore, we take advantage of standard non-frontier performance measures namely the cost to assets ratio (TC/A) and profit to assets (/A) for comparing them with estimated cost and profit efficiencies. The findings suggest the high degree of consistency between the results of parametric and non-parametric methods; meanwhile, any significant correlation is not seen between ownership (public/private) and type of...

    Estimation Productivity of Iran’s Industry

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pilehvari, Asal (Author) ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this reaserch by comparing some of the recent litreture on indentification production Function,we estimate total factor productivity. We focous on parametric methods, especially Blundell and Bond (2000), Ollay and Pakes (1996), Levinsohn and Petrin (2003) and OLS.Using panel data on plant-level of 4-digits isic in Iran from 1380 to 1390. We choose Levinsohn and Petrin (2003) as the most appropriate estimator then we use that estimator for estimating productivity of plants. At the end we investigate the relation between firm size and productivity, also its ownership and productivity

Parametric Tolerance Analysis of Rigid Assemblies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salehvesal, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In a mechanical system, dimensional and geometrical tolerances of components propagate kinematically through assembly and accumulate in a way that alters the critical dimensions of the assembly. Analysis of the accumulation of components tolerances and their influences on the critical dimensions of the assembly (design requirements) and also understanding the behavior of the entire system according to these effects is called tolerance analysis. Tolerance analysis is a key tool in quality improvement, cost reduction and profit growth, and it plays an important role in industrial productions. The Majority of mechanical systems are 3-Dimentional in nature, and approximating them as...

A heuristic complexity-based method for cost estimation of aerospace systems

    , Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering ; Volume 227, Issue 11 , 2013 , Pages 1685-1700 ; 09544100 (ISSN) Banazadeh, A ; Jafari, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Cost estimation plays an essential role in the development of aerospace systems that are perhaps the most complex, time- and labor-consuming ones. Regarding this matter, it is unavoidable to take a systematic approach to build a realistic model through a deliberative, heuristical and easy-to-do process in the early stages of design. In the current study, complexity index theory is utilized to develop a heuristic complexity-based method to estimate various costs of aerospace systems. This method promises to be logically and practically more reliable and accurate than classical parametric methods. Logically, manipulating a group of parameters, instead of only one or two, reduces the...

Numerical Simulation and Investigation of Impact of Climate Change on Probability Occurrence of Tropical Cyclone in Sea of Oman and Persian Gulf

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ilami, Dariush (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Madjid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Super cyclone GONU formed on June 2007 has been recognized the strongest tropical cyclone in the North Indian Ocean (NIO). The aim of this study is to numerically simulate the cyclone GONU and its resulting waves in the southern seas of Iran leading to the best parametric model to simulate future occurrence of tropical cyclones (TCs) in the NIO. In this regard, the best track data of the cyclone is extracted from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone GONU wind field is simulated by Young and Sobey, Holland, and Rankin models in order to determine the most appropriate model which is then considered for regenerating cyclonic wind fields over the Makran coastline and the sea of...
