    Abstract
Background: The use of functional knee braces for returning to sports or during demanding activities following anterior cruciate ligament rupture is common; yet despite being commonly prescribed, its mechanism of action remains unknown. Objectives: To examine the effect of functional knee braces on mean muscle activity when performing lunge exercises. Study design: Pre-/post-test (within-subject research design). Methods: A total of 10 male participants with unilateral isolated anterior cruciate ligament deficiency participated. Electromyographic activities of six muscles around the knee were recorded during lunge exercises, with and without wearing a custom functional knee brace. The lunge...

    Abstract
Nowadays, as technology grows, human life formation changes every second. These changes sometimes create harmful habits and affect our lifestyle, which unfortunately bring various diseases and disorders. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) & SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) are common disorders in children. By giving children the right treatment at the younger ages, we can help them overcome their disabilities and not face any symptoms in their adulthood. The multi-sensory balance board is designed and developed to help medics diagnose the disorders in patients at early stages and monitor the treatment progress. The balance board uses multiple sensors to detect common human...

Beating-heart robotic surgery using bilateral impedance control: Theory and experiments

    Abstract
A bilateral impedance controller is presented to enable robot-assisted surgery of a beating heart. For this purpose, two desired impedance models are designed and realized for the master and slave robots interacting with the operator (surgeon) and the environment (heart tissue), respectively. The impedance models are designed such that (a) the slave robot complies with the oscillatory motion of the beating heart and (b) the surgeon perceives the non-oscillatory portion of the slave/heart contact force at the master robot implying arrested-heart surgery. These performance goals are achieved via appropriate adjustment of the impedance model parameters without any measurement or estimation of...
