    Abstract
Production of sand is a common issue in oil and gas fields causing various production problems. However, as a result of sand production, rock permeability can also be increased at near-wellbore areas, which is considered to be an advantage of solid particles production. Therefore, this study aims to investigate sand production behavior and permeability changes during sand production experimentally. To do so, a specific core flooding system capable of applying different radial and axial stresses has been designed which is equipped with a special fluid distributer at the outlet to prevent any sand particle blockage during fluid production. As part of this study, eleven unconsolidated synthetic...

Investigation of wettability alteration through relative permeability measurement during MEOR process: A micromodel study

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Vol. 120, issue , 2014 , p. 10-17 Khajepour, H ; Mahmoodi, M ; Biria, D ; Ayatollahi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) as a tertiary process employs microorganisms and their metabolites to reduce the residual oil saturation of the reservoir mainly through interfacial tension (IFT) reduction and wettability alteration. In spite of its great potential and the mentioned advantages, application of MEOR has been limited because of the lack of practical convincing experimental results. In this study, the effects of MEOR process on wettability changes and the reduction of residual oil saturation have been examined by providing microscopic visualization of two phase flow in transparent glass micromodels. Biosurfactant producing bacterial strain (Enterobacter cloacae) was...

    Abstract
In this paper, a novel method which has been proposed during the last decade for increasing of the permeability of porous media of petroleum reservoirs by transferring of energy via ultrasound waves is investigated numerically. Increasing of permeability of porous media of petroleum reservoirs results in enhancing of oil recovery. This technique is based on the idea of transferring of energy to the liquid filled porous media via the ultrasound waves and consequently producing of pulsating vapor bubbles. The generated vapor bubbles transfer the energy of ultrasound waves in the liquid filled passages of a porous medium through velocity and pressure fields in the liquid domain and in turn...
