Optimal Waveform Design for MIMO-SAR Applications

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seraj, Amin (Author) ; Bastani, Mohammad Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Studies regarding Multiple Input - Multiple Output synthetic aperture radars, shows promising advances in synthetic aperture imaging. Compared to conventional SAR, MIMO-SAR encompasses desirable features, namely: lower background noise, better detection rate, easier implementation of imaging modes etc. Signals used in these radars, are required to have specific properties such as orthogonality, large time-bandwidth product, high Doppler tolerance and qualified ambiguity function. Also because of the specific geometry of SAR imaging, these signals should remain orthogonal in respectively large Doppler shifts and time offsets. Through the past years, many signals are suggested in the...

    Abstract
A multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar system, unlike a conventional phased array radar, can choose freely the signals which transmitted via its antennas to maximize the power around the locations of the specific targets, or more generally to approximate a given transmit beampattern, and also to minimize the cross-correlation of the signals reflected back to the radar by the targets of interest. In this paper we use of phase-coded signals and show how the above desirable features of MIMO radars with some operational consideration can help us to have a desire beampattern. We suppose that for a collection of phase-coded signals, the elements of transmitted signals cross-correlation...

Cognitive radar sequence design under the spectral compatibility requirements

    , Article IET Radar, Sonar and Navigation ; Volume 11, Issue 5 , 2017 , Pages 759-767 ; 17518784 (ISSN) Ge, P ; Cui, G ; Karbasi, S. M ; Kong, L ; Yang, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
As the increasing demands of military detection, wireless communication and remote sensing make the spectrum even more crowded, radar sequence design meeting spectral compatibility requirement is a challenging and urgent problem. This study is devoted to designing optimised phase-coded sequences which keep spectral-compatible with the overlaid electromagnetic radiators and at the same time optimise the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). First, an intelligent dynamic spectrum information around the radar system is achieved by a radio environmental map. The information is introduced to form a constrained optimisation process aimed at improving the spectral compatibility and the...
