Sol-gel Derived Nano Structured ZnO-Graphene Thin Film for Corrosion Control Applications

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Razavi Zadeh, Omid (Author) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
An isopropanol supercritical reducing environment was prepared by fabricating a high temperature, high pressure autoclave, in order to make a hybridized structure of zinc oxide and graphene oxide, entitled as ZnO-G. In this novel structure, the oxygen acts as bridging element between zinc and carbon, that connects a wide band gap semiconductor to a narrow banded one. The hybridization mechanism is studied by FTIR analysis, and morphology is shown by FE-SEM. The micrographs obtained from the thin film show a stacked pile of ZnO-G disks, like a button, dispersed on a crack free layer. In addition, the crystallographic structure was revealed by comparing low angle X-ray diffraction patterns to...

Photoactive TiO2–SiO2 Thin Films on 316L Stainless Steel for Self-Cleaning Application, Tribological Properties and Corrosion Protection

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Shayegh Boroujeny, Behrooz (Author) ; Afshar, Abdollah (Supervisor) ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, TiO2-SiO2 nanocomposite films with different amount of SiO2 were prepared by sol-gel process and were coated onto stainless steel 316L. The effect of addition of various amounts of SiO2 in the precursor solution on the structure, morphology, photocatalysis, photo-generated hydrophilicity, self-cleaning property and mechanical properties of TiO2 thin films and corrosion behavior of AISI 316L stainless steel substrate, was investigated. For this purpose, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, water contact angle measurements, UV spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, depth-sensing indentation technique supporting...

    Abstract
In this research, the ZnOG hybrid thin film was produced via solgel method. The surface morphology, band gap and photoactive properties of the films were studied by means of SEM, UV–Vis and photoluminescence analysis. In addition, the ability of the thin film in photocathodic protection of carbon steel (CS) and 304 stainless steel in 3.5 wt.% NaCl and Na2S solutions under dark and UV illumination was investigated by polarization test as well as OCP and current measurements during coupling of steels with ZnOG photoanode. The mix band gap is reduced to the orders of 1.17 eV through hybridization of ZnO with graphene oxide. In both NaCl and Na2S solutions, the ZnOG thin film could effectively...
