Designing and Manufactureing a Concentration Gradient Generator
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; kashaninezhad, navid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, due to the growing need of the human to further improve the health of the community, research in the field of pharmacology as well as simulation of the cell culture environment is increasing. One of the most important requirements for simulating cell culture is the use of concentration gradient in culture media. The reason for this is the dependence of cellular activity on the presence of a gradient of concentration in the environment. Also, in drug investigations, in order to speed up the examination of different drugs and reduce the amount of drug that will used, different concentrations of the drug should be considered simultaneously in the microchips. Therefore, to make the...
Single Sided Dye Sensitized Solar Cell
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Taghavinia, Nima (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this project single sided dye sensitized solar cell is introduced as a new design that has both of electrodes in one side. These electrodes can be separated vertically by a thin insulator layer such as SiO2 or horizontally by lithographic method. First a metallic thin film is patterned by lithography, and then thickened by electrochemical deposition of Chromium. Platinum is electrodeposited on the substrate of counter electrode and a thin spacer layer is deposited on Platinum layer to separate it from Titanium dioxide layer.
In Chapters 1, 2 & 3 basic science and methods which are needed for doing this project is introduced. In chapter 1 material for making a standard dye sensitized...

A Fabrication Method of Neutrally-buoyant Magnetic Micro-robot to Improve Its Motion Control
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nejat Pishkenari, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Micro-robotics is one of the currently emerging technologies which has attracted attentions for its probable applications in different fields including biotechnology, diagnosis and treatment in medical engineering as well as general studies in micro-scale science and engineering. Magnetic micro-robotics is considered as the most promising group, primarily due to the biocompatibility of magnetic fields and advances in electronic circuits to produce and control such fields. One critical point in utilizing these robots is their high density in comparison with the working fluid and their tendency to sink. In this thesis, a method to fabricate buoyant magnetic robots has been proposed based on...
Observation of quasi mono-energetic electron bunches in the new ellipsoid cavity model

Abstract
In this work, we introduce a new ellipsoid model to describe bubble acceleration of electrons and discuss the required conditions of forming it. We have found that the electron trajectory is strongly related to background electron energy and cavity potential ratio. In the ellipsoid cavity regime, the quality of the electron beam is improved in contrast to other methods, such as that using periodic plasma wakefield, spherical cavity regime, and plasma channel guided acceleration. The trajectory of the electron motion can be described as hyperbola, parabola, or ellipsoid path. It is influenced by the position and energy of the electrons and the electrostatic potential of the cavity. In the...
All metal organic deposited high-Tc superconducting transition edge bolometer on yttria-stabilized zirconia substrate

Abstract
We report on the results of a YBa2Cu3O7−x (YBCO) superconductive transition edge bolometer (TEB) fabricated on a Ce0.9La0.1O2−7 (CLO) buffered single crystalline yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) substrate. Metal organic deposition was used for the fabrication of both the YBCO thin film as well as CLO buffer layer, while standard photolithography was applied for TEB preparation. YBCO thin film properties were analysed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), AC susceptibility and resistance versus temperature measurements. Optical response of the TEB in terms of voltage amplitude and phase was analysed and measured through four-probe technique in a liquid nitrogen...

Design and Fabrication of a Microfluidic Chip for Three-dimensional Cancer Cell Culture
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor) ; Kashaninejad, Navid (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, we are witnesses of deaths caused by cancer in large statistical amounts. Vast number of investigations are conducted for anticancer drug evaluation on human and animal cells using traditional two-dimensional and three-dimensional culturing platforms. However, most of them are not successful due to the lack of in-vivo relevant microenvironment in these platforms. One of the best cancer in-vitro cultures is the tumor spheroid which is a spherical cellular aggregation. By culturing these tumor spheroids in a microfluidic chip, it is possible to mimic the in-vivo microenvironment elements such as nutrient and metabolite gradients. Here we present a microfluidic device fabricated using...

Abstract
In this research we focus on fabrication, characterization and performance of biosensors based on vertically aligned carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes have been used as high density carbon nanotubes and nanoelectrode array. Carbon nanotubes have been grown using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition method. Characterization and performance of biosensors have been studied by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods.

A new loss minimization approach with flux and torque ripples reduction of direct torque controlled permanent magnet synchronous motors
, Article 2009 13th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, EPE '09, 8 September 2009 through 10 September 2009, Barcelona ; 2009 ; 9781424444328 (ISBN) ; Vaez Zadeh, S ; Tahami, F ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to minimize the loss while reducing the flux and torque ripples in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) under direct torque control (DTC). Offline method is used to minimize the loss and obtain the optimal flux. To reduce the amount of computation, the optimal flux table is produced according to the conditions in which the machine works. To reduce the flux and torque ripples and to control the switching frequency, SVM-DTC method is applied. Simulation results depict a noticeable increase in efficiency of the motor and a reduction in flux and torque ripples
Warm relativistic fluid description of the laser wake field accelerator
, Article Physics of Plasmas ; Volume 16, Issue 2 , 2009 ; 1070664X (ISSN) ; Anvari, A ; Samimi, J ; Sharif University of Technology
2009
Abstract
A warm relativistic ideal fluid theory is proposed to study the dynamics of laser-induced high amplitude longitudinal waves in rarefied plasmas. It is demonstrated that fluid equations may be closed using an adiabatic approximation in the local rest frame of the plasma fluid. It is shown that considering three-dimensional thermal fluctuations of plasma for an interacting laser pulse that is invariant in transverse directions, considerably changes the features of describing fluid equations compared to that of previously considered one-dimensional thermal-fluctuations models. For a given shape of laser pulse these equations are solved numerically and their results are compared with those...

Abstract
With the increasing share of distributed generation in electrical energy supply, the proper planning procedure for using these units, has become more vital for power system planners. In this paper, the application of multi-objective optimization techniques for siting, sizing and determination of the proper technology to be used, has been investigated in such a way that, the load demand during the planning horizon is met and the technical and environmental constraints are satisfied. Unlike the traditional optimization methods used in power system optimization, NSGA-II multi-objective optimization algorithm does not consider techno-economical and environmental parameters in the constraints of...
