    Abstract
Laboratory scale experiments were conducted in order to investigate the photolysis of Reactive Blue 19 (RB 19) dye using UV as the irradiation source in alkaline solution. The effects of operating parameters such as, pH, initial dye concentration, UV dosage, hydrogen peroxide and oxygen have been evaluated. The results indicate that the UV photolysis process in alkaline solution is ideal for decolorizing of RB 19 and it can be taken as a starting step to establish the economical feasibility of the method for the decolorization of wastewater from textile industries

    Abstract
In this research, titanium dioxide-phosphorus (TiO2-P) immobilized on silica phosphoric acid (SPA) was prepared by a simple modified sol–gel method with SPA as a precursor instead of phosphoric acid. TiO2-P thin film photocatalyst immobilized on SPA as a novel high-efficiency photocatalyst was investigated to remove naphthalene as a toxic compound from wastewater. The novel resulting photocatalyst were characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction pattern revealed nano-photocatalyst TiO2-P with the average size of 15–20 nm. EDX analysis showed the presence of phosphorus elements in the crystalline structure of TiO2 and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy showed the energy...

    , Article Journal of Environmental Health Science and Engineering ; Vol. 12, issue. 1 , 2014 Safari, M ; Rostami, M. H ; Alizadeh, M ; Alizadehbirjandi, A ; Nakhli, S. A. A ; Aminzadeh, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The degradation of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) was investigated in the aqueous solution of coated ZnO onto magnetite nanoparticale based on an advanced photocatalytic oxidation process. The photocatalysts were synthesized by coating of ZnO onto magnetite using precipitation method. The sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and vibration sample magnetometer (VSM). Besides, specific surface area was also determined by BET method. The four effective factors including pH of the reaction mixture, Fe3O4/ZnO magnetic nanoparticles concentration, initial MTBE concentration and molar ratio of [H2O2]/ [MTBE] were optimized using response surface...

Acid blue 92 photocatalytic degradation in the presence of scavengers by two types photocatalyst

    , Article Environmental Progress and Sustainable Energy ; Volume 31, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 371-378 ; 19447442 (ISSN) Elahifard, M. R ; Gholami, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Two types of nanosized photocatalyst, TiO 2 P-25 and ap/Ag/AgBr/TiO 2, were used for decolorization of Acid Blue 92 (AB92) in dark, visible light (V-L), and UV media. Under UV and V-L, the effect of three possible photodegradation processes of AB92 including photocatalytic degradation, self-photosensitization, and direct photolysis were studied. Results showed that in UV/photocatalysts, photocatalytic degradation is the major process for photodecolorization. However, in the presence of TiO 2, self-photosensitization has the major role under V-L. Because of the presence of AgBr as photoactive center in ap/Ag/AgBr/TiO 2, the main process is the photocatalytic degradation in V-L. By using...

    Abstract
TiO2-based photocatalysts are seen as the most common agents for the photodegradation of bacteria. In this study, AgCl/TiO2, hydroxyapatite(Hp)/AgCl/TiO2, AgI/TiO2, and Hp/AgI/TiO2 were prepared by the deposition-precipitation method on P25 TiO2 nanoparticles and were characterized by XRD, SEM, FT-IR, EDX and BET methods. The prepared composites showed high efficiency for the inactivation of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria under visible light and in dark media with different catalyst amounts of 12 and 24 mg, respectively. In less than 30 min, AgI/TiO2, prepared by the combination of cationic surfactant and PVPI2, disinfected 1 × 107 colony-forming units of E. coli completely. However,...

    Abstract
In this work, the individual and interaction effects of three key operating parameters of the photocatalytic disinfection process were evaluated and optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) for the first time. The chosen operating parameters were: reaction temperature, initial pH of the reaction mixture and TiO2 P-25 photocatalyst loading. Escherichia coli concentration, after 90 minutes irradiation of UV-A light, was selected as the response. Twenty sets of photocatalytic disinfection experiments were conducted by adjusting operating parameters at five levels using the central composite design. Based on the experimental data, a semi-empirical expression was established and applied...

    2009
    Abstract
A conic body packed bed reactor, internally irradiated with a UV-C lamp and equipped with circulating upflow stream was employed to investigate the decomposition of a widely used azo dye, direct red 16, in water. The synthesized nanostructure TiO 2 photocatalyst particles were immobilized on the surface of transparent Raschig ring packings. Solutions with initial concentration of 30 mg L -1 of dye, within the range of typical concentration in textile waste waters, were treated under the mild operating conditions of natural pH of 6.75 and temperature of 25 °C. Investigations on the active species showed that hydroxyl radicals play the major role in the process, providing a perfect degradation...

    Abstract
This study focused on the synthesis of TiO2-Zeolite nanocomposite through a sol-gel approach. The decrease in the size of the nanocomposite is considered a primary parameter to improve photocatalytic activity. In this regard, fabricated samples were exposed to laser irradiation (532 nm) for four different time intervals in order to investigate the size variation of the nanocomposite. FTIR, UV-Vis, XRD, DLS, SEM and EDX analyses were applied to characterize and determine the size of the products. An optimized nanocomposite sample, in term of the particle size, was used for photodegradation of 2,4-D herbicide from aqueous solution. Photodegradation was carried out under UV irradiation (12 W)...

    Abstract
Herein, Kiwi peel activated carbon (AC), Materials Institute Lavoisier (MIL-88B (Fe), and AC/MIL-88B (Fe) composite were synthesized and used as catalysts to degrade Reactive Red 198. The material properties were analyzed by the FTIR, BET-BJH, XRD, FESEM, EDX, TGA, and UV–Vis/DRS. The band gap values (Eg) estimated by Tauc plot method, were obtained 5.06, 4.19 and 3.79 eV for AC, MIL-88B (Fe) and AC/MIL-88B (Fe), respectively. The results indicated that the AC/MIL-88B (Fe) composite had higher photocatalytic activity (99%) than that of pure AC (79%) and MIL-88B (Fe) catalysts (87%)....

    , Article Journal of Hazardous Materials ; Volume 172, Issue 2-3 , 2009 , Pages 1573-1578 ; 03043894 (ISSN) Ghasemi, S ; Rahimnejad, S ; Setayesh, S. R ; Rohani, S ; Gholami, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
TiO2 and transition metal (Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) doped TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by the sol-gel method using 2-hydroxylethylammonium formate as an ionic liquid. All the prepared samples were calcined at 500 °C and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), BET surface area determination, energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) techniques. The studies revealed that transition metal (TM) doped nanoparticles have smaller crystalline size and higher surface area than pure TiO2. Dopant ions in the TiO2 structure caused significant absorption shift into the visible region. The results of...
