    Abstract
In this paper the combined optimal feedback-adaptive feedforward controller proposed to attain better performance of active vibration suppression of flexible structures subjected to different type of disturbances. The structure considered here is a cantilever beam actuated with a PZT patch actuator. The proposed controller consists of two individual parts, a filtered-x controller as a feedforward part and an optimal linear controller as a feedback part. Recursive Least Square algorithm (RLS) is used for the adaptive filtering scheme in Filtered-x adaptive feedforward controller. LQG optimal controller is also used in the feedback part of the controller. This research investigates the...

, Article Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering ; 2012 ; 0277786X (ISSN) ; 9780819489982 (ISBN) Mofid, M ; Eftekhar Azam, S ; Afghani Khorasghan, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this article the constitutive equation of an Euler-Bernoulli beam, excited by multiple moving masses is considered. A set of multiple piezo-ceramic actuators is used to harness the dynamic response of the beam. In this regard the beam response is suppressed by utilizing a linear control algorithm with a time varying gain matrix and displacement-velocity feedback. The efficiency of the results is investigated through the numerical analysis of an example problem

    , Article 2008 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, IMECE 2008, Boston, MA, 31 October 2008 through 6 November 2008 ; Volume 13, Issue PART B , 2009 , Pages 723-730 ; 9780791848746 (ISBN) Esteki, H ; Hasannia, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In flex-tensional piezoactuators, due to the low displacement of piezostacks, a compliant mechanism is used to amplify displacement of piezostack. In this paper, optimization of a compliant mechanism with corner-filleted flexure hinges is carried out using real-coded genetic algorithms (GAs) to avoid trapping in local optimums. The objective functions are displacement amplification and stiffness of mechanism and design variables are cross-sectional size and material used. The constraints which are applied on mechanism are based on piezostack dimensions and manufacturing limits. Displacement amplification and stiffness are calculated using strain energy and Castigliano's displacement theorem....

    Abstract
This study presents a novel method for observation of stage position in a 2D nano-positioning system based on a hybrid Kalman filter. The proposed method obviates the need to measure the stage position directly using complex and costly capacity sensors. Instead, traditional piezo actuators equipped with strain gauge sensors are utilized to measure the deection of the magnification system at the position of actuators. Then, a powerful estimation algorithm called Kalman filter was employed to observe stage displacements. The designed hybrid Kalman filter uses dynamical equations of motion in the prediction step. The piezo actuators deections are measured and exploited to correct the predicted...

On the influence of centerline strain on the stability of a bimorph piezo-actuated microbeam

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , December , 2011 , Pages 1246-1252 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Abedinnasab, M. H ; Kamali Eigoli, A ; Zohoor, H ; Vossoughi, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The nonlinear equation of motion for pre-stretched EulerBernoulli beams is derived. The effect of pre-tension and pre-compression in EulerBernoulli beams is studied. It is shown that compressive strain affects the bending stiffness much more than tensile strain. Based on the derived equation, the dynamic model of bimorph piezo-actuated beams, which is accurate, yet simple, is then developed. Afterwards, the critical voltage, which makes the piezo-actuated microbeam unstable, is numerically investigated. It is shown that the strain of the centerline is proportional to the beam's aspect ratio squared. Results show that the more the aspect ratio, the less the critical voltage. In addition, it...

    Abstract
In some systems with hysteresis behavior like Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators and Piezo actuators, we essentially need an accurate modeling of hysteresis either for controller design or performance evaluation. One of the most interesting Hysteresis non-linearity identification methods is Preisach model in which hysteresis is modeled by linear combination of elemental operators. Despite good ability of Preisach modeling to extract main features of system with hysteresis behavior, cause of tough numerical nature of Preisach, it is not convenient to use in real-time control applications. In this paper we present a novel method based on Artificial Neural Network. For evaluation of proposed...

Spindle speed variation and adaptive force regulation to suppress regenerative chatter in the turning process

    Abstract
Chatter suppression in machining processes results in more material removal rate, high precision and surface quality. In this paper, two control strategies are developed to suppress chatter vibration in the turning process including a worn tool. In the first stage, a sinusoidal spindle speed variation around the mean speed is modulated to disturb the regenerative mechanism. The optimal amplitudes of the speed modulations are found based on a genetic algorithm such that the input energy to the turning process is minimized. In the second stage, to improve the response of the system which is associated with small ripples under the steady state condition, an adaptive controller is designed. In...

    Abstract
This paper proposes an optimized design for a 2DOF linear-motion mobile microrobot. The forward motion of the microrobot is achieved by simultaneous excitation of the vertical and horizontal oscillators that create the stick-slip locomotion. Dynamic equations of motion for the microrobot are derived and simplified based on Coulomb friction. The horizontal and vertical elements are connected to the main mass by piezoelectric actuators and are set in oscillatory motion by applying a harmonic voltage to the actuators. The design parameters, including the perpendicularly-mounted masses, frequency, and phase difference of the excitations are tuned in order to achieve high locomotion velocity and...

A single degree of freedom model of orthogonal turning process is used to set up the nonlinear delay differential equation of motion. Tool wear effect is considered as the contact force between the workpiece and tool flank surfaces. Uncertainties in parameters of dynamic model and machining conditions are included in the model. An adaptive control strategy is applied for chatter suppression in cutting process. The force provided by a piezoactuator is the control input of the system. Results of stability analysis and adaptive control for two distinct cases of sharp and worn...
