    Abstract
This study is conducted aiming to identify the dynamics of a tapered beam, embedded by piezoelectric layer. Narrowing the tip of the beam equipped with piezoelectric patches leads to optimize the output power after excitation by the frequency sweep input. An accelerometer is installed on the beam base, which measures the acceleration that is applied to the system. Piezoelectric sensors also measure the generated voltage. The experimental test data is handled through CIFER software, using Fourier transform and Bode plot in the frequency domain, to obtain appropriate transfer functions. MATLAB is used for nonlinear simulation and validation of discrete transfer functions by a set of data that...

    Abstract
In this paper, based on Kirchhoff plate theory (CLPT), vibration analysis of an arbitrary nonlinear variable thickness annular isotropic plate which is covered with piezoelectric layers on the top and bottom surfaces in a short circuit state is performed using a semi-analytic method, named modified wave method (MWM). The plate is partitioned into several continuous segments with constant thicknesses, for which there exists exact analytical solutions. Considering wave method, the solution of each segment is assumed to be the combination of waves moving forward and backward, and at each step, waves in positive and negative directions are obtained in terms of waves at the inner edge of the...

    Springer  2020
    Abstract
In this work, the dynamic and vibrational behavior of a micro/nano-manipulator has been studied. The manipulator comprises three links attached serially. While the connection of the links is rigid, which makes the whole body a monolithic structure, the movement of the manipulator is derived from the links deflection. Piezoelectric layers were employed as an actuator to impose deflection on the links, thereby moving the manipulator. After defining the dynamic behavior of each link, manipulator equations of motion were developed. To evaluate the validity of the mathematical model, two FEM models were constructed. The observed results showed a good agreement between the models, and they...

    Abstract
Based on the first order shear deformation theory, free vibration behavior of functionally graded (FG) annular sector plates integrated with piezoelectric layers is investigated. The distribution of electric potential along the thickness direction of piezoelectric layers which is assumed to be a combination of linear and sinusoidal functions, satisfies both open and closed circuit electrical boundary conditions. Through a reformulation of governing equations and harmonic motion assumption, a novel decoupling method is suggested to transform the six second order coupled partial differential equations of motion into two eighth order and fourth order equations. A Fourier series method is then...

    Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to design and analyze a 3-link micro-device proposed as a micro-manipulator. While the structure of the micro-manipulator is monolithic, end-effector workspace is achieved through deflection of links which is actuated by piezoelectric layers. By combining static analysis of the links through a multilayer piezoelectric beam model and kinematic analysis of the micro-manipulator, inverse kinematic has been solved utilizing the Taylor series expansion technique and the perturbation method. The obtained results through the present model reveal that...

The electromechanical frequency response functions that relate the power output and circuit load resistance are identified from the exact solutions. Using Rayleigh damping the influence of structural damping is taken into account. Also...

    Abstract
One of the methods of force/moment exertion on micro beams is utilizing piezoelectric actuators. In this paper, considering the effects of the piezoelectric actuator on asymptotic stability achievement, the boundary control problem for the vibration of a clamped-free micro-cantilever Timoshenko beam is addressed. To achieve this purpose, the dynamic equations of the beam actuated by a piezoelectric layer laminated on one side of the beam are extracted. The control law was implemented so that vibrations of the beam could be decayed. This control law was achieved based on feedback of time derivatives of boundary states of the beam. The obtained control was applied in the form of piezoelectric...

    Abstract
Based on classical plate theory (CLPT), free vibration analysis of a circular plate composed of functionally graded material (FGM) with its upper and lower surfaces bounded by two piezoelectric layers was performed. Assuming that the material properties vary in a power law manner within the thickness of the plate the governing differential equations are derived. The distribution of electric potential along the thickness direction in piezoelectric layers is considered to vary quadratically such that the Maxwell static electricity equation is satisfied. Then these equations are solved analytically for two different boundary conditions, namely clamped and simply supported edges. The validity of...

    Abstract
Self-excited vibrations known as chatter are considered as the most detrimental issue in micro-turning processes. Occurring unpredictably, they adversely affect the tool life, productivity rate and surface quality of the machining processes. In this paper, a novel machining arm is modeled as a piezoelectric stacked rod which is subjected to a chatter force in the orthogonal micro-turning process. Due to the fact that machining processes are affected by various sources of uncertainties, H∞ robust control approach is used to suppress the chatter vibrations of the machining arm in the presence of tool wear and dynamic model parameter variations. Also, input control force of the system is...

    Abstract
A semi-analytical solution is presented for three dimensional elastic analysis of finitelylong, simply supported, orthotropic, laminated cylindrical panels with piezoelectric layers subjected to outer pressure and electrostatic excitation. Both the direct and inverse piezoelectric effects are investigated. The solution is obtained through reducing the highly coupled partial differential equations (PDE's) of equilibrium to ordinary differential equations (ODE's) with variable coefficients by means of trigonometric function expansion in longitudinal and circumferential directions. The resulting ODE's are solved by dividing the radial domain into some finite subdivisions and imposing necessary...

    Abstract
Shear horizontal surface acoustic waves (SAW) propagation in an ultra-thin functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) layer bonded to a homogeneous substrate is analytically formulated in the mathematical framework of surface/interface elasticity theory. It is assumed that the FGP over-layer is made of a hexagonal 6-mm crystal with a single axis of rotational symmetry coinciding with the axis of polarization. The mechanical and piezoelectric properties of the layer are assumed to vary linearly with thickness. The half-space is made of a transversely isotropic material. It should be mentioned that this model is of great interest in investigating SAW devices at high frequencies. Accounting for...
