    , Article Shock and Vibration ; Vol. 2014, Issue. 1 , 2014 ; ISSN: 1070-9622 Saraygord Afshari, S ; Nobahari, H ; Kordkheili, S. A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Experimental system identification of a flexible beam based on sweep square excitation is studied. For the purpose of nonparametric identification, an excitation signal is conducted to evaluate the frequency response of the system. The experiment is designed to excite the beam using a piezo actuator, in a way to raise the chance of exciting first three natural modes. In order to find the best linear representation of the real system, two different identification methods are applied. First, autoregressive moving average eXogenous method is employed to identify the transfer function of the beam. Then, the identification is carried out using the subspace identification method to obtain the...

    Abstract
Ultra-high precision machining is proposed by externally actuating the work piece in linear motions in the X-Y plane and linear motion in the Z-axis. To solve the problems in the machining process such as nonlinearity and low repeatability positioning accuracy of machining tools in a larger scale, a novel platform for cutting tools in micro machining based on electrostatic linear micromotors and piezoelectric stack actuator system is presented. © 2017 IEEE

Hardware-in-the-loop optimization of an active vibration controller in a flexible beam structure using evolutionary algorithms

    , Article Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures ; Vol. 25, issue. 10 , 2014 , p. 1211-1223 Nobahari, H ; Hosseini Kordkheili, S. A ; Afshari, S. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, active vibration control of a cantilevered flexible beam structure equipped with bonded piezoelectric sensor/actuators is investigated. The linear quadratic regulator technique together with an observer is adopted to design the controller as well as to provide the full-state feedback. Two different approaches are subsequently used for simultaneously integrated optimization of the controller and observer parameters. In the first approach, a linear experimental model of the system is obtained using identification techniques, and the optimization is then performed based on a computer simulation of the system. However, in the second approach, a hardware-in-the-loop optimization...

    Abstract
Underground pipelines are important infrastructure for transporting energy resources, particularly water and oil. Due to the high risk of damage and possible consequences, close monitoring of pipelines is a serious challenge for researchers and decision makers. Piezoelectric sensors/actuators are being used to monitor the physical characteristics of pipelines, including corrosion and crack. Piezoelectric ceramics as transmitters and/or receivers are connected to data concentrators in order to monitor the defects in pipelines. The performance and accuracy of this system highly depends on the accurate interpretation of the received electrical signals due to changing mechanical fields. However,...

    Abstract
Considerable attention has been devoted recently to vibration control using intelligent materials as sensor/actuator. An intelligent control technique using a neural network is proposed for vibration control of micro-cantilever beam with bonded piezoelectric sensor and actuator. Structure modal characteristic analysis is done to determine the optimal configuration of piezoelectric sensor and actuator. With the piezoelectric elements are surface-bonded near the same position to the fixed end of micro-cantilever beam, an optimal controller, linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG), and an intelligent strategy based on neural network are investigated. Finally, the simulation results are given to...

    , Article Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering, 7 March 2011 through 9 March 2011, San Diego, CA ; Volume 7978 , 2011 ; 0277786X (ISSN) ; 9780819485403 (ISBN) Zareie, S ; Zabihollah, A ; Azizi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In the present work, an unsymmetric laminated plate with surface bonded piezoelectric sensors, and actuators has been considered. Piezoelectric sensor were used to monitor the load and deformation bifurcation occurs. Monitoring the shape and load of a morphing structure is essential to ascertain that the structure is properly deployed and it is not loaded excessively, thus, preventing structural to failure. A piezoceramic actuator is used to provide activation load and to force the structure to change its stability state from one to another. A non-linear finite element model based on the layerwise displacement theory considering the electro-mechanical coupling effects of piezoelectric...

    Abstract
The utility of probability density evolution method for reliability-based active vibration control of a cantilevered flexible beam is experimentally investigated. In this respect, an optimal linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is utilized together with an observer to design an online full-state feedback controller. In order to design a well-performing controller and to simulate the controller performance, a system model is obtained via identification techniques. Reliability tests are consequently performed to verify the effectiveness of the presented reliability assessment method as a foundation for reliability-based control. Subsequently, a hybrid metaheuristic optimization scheme of...

    Abstract
In this research, a functionally graded microbeam bonded with piezoelectric layers is analyzed under electric force. Static and dynamic instability due to the electric actuation is studied because of its importance in micro electro mechanical systems, especially in micro switches. In order to prevent pull-in instability, two piezoelectric layers are used as sensor and actuator. A current amplifier is used to supply input voltage of the actuator from the output of the sensor layer. Using Hamilton's principle and Euler-Bernoulli theory, equation of motion of the system is obtained. It is shown that the load type (distributed or concentrated) applied to the microbeam from the piezoelectric...
