    Abstract
    The electrochemical behavior of a tin electrode in citric acid solutions of different concentrations was studied by electrochemical techniques. The E/I curves showed that the anodic behavior of tin exhibits active/passive transition. Passivation is due to the formation of Sn(OH)4 and/or SnO2 film on the electrode surface. Addition of NaCl to citric acid solution, enhances the active dissolution of tin and tends to breakdown the passivity at a certain breakdown potential. Cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic measurements allow the pitting potential (Epit) and the repassivation potential (Erp) to be determined.     Abstract
    In this study, effects of tungsten on wear resistance of high chromium white cast iron with and without tungsten in erosion-corrosion condition have been investigated. At the same time, the comparison between wear resistance of this grade of cast iron and low alloy steels with various contents of Cr which are used in industrial condition (in Sarcheshme Company, the greatest copper production company in the Middle East and with more than 4000 years historical cupper production background) was studied, while, copper concentrates have used for erosion particles.     Wall thickness measurement and deterioration determination of 6 and 10 inch pipes due to corrosion/erosion/pitting was evaluated by using radiographic film density measurements. Special reference blocks were prepared with defined step wall reductions and artificial defects. Gamma radiography with a Ir-192 source was used. A double-wall technique with longitudinal film arrangement was used for this purpose. Formulae were developed from the experiments for numerical calculations.     Anodic aluminium oxide films were fabricated by well known two-step anodizing process in oxalic acid electrolyte. The ordering characteristics (ordered pore domains, average pore diameter size and through-pore arrangement) of anodic aluminium oxide films, obtained in different growth sequences, were identified by microscopic analysis such as ex situ contact-mode atomic force microcopy and scanning electron microscopy.     Vehicle localization and environment mapping are the most essential parts of the robot navigation in unknown environments. Since the problem of localization in indoor environments is directly related to the problem of online map generation, in this paper a new and efficient algorithm for simultaneous localization and map generation is proposed and novel results for real environments are achieved. This new algorithm interprets and validates the raw sonar measurements in first step, and applies them to the environment map in the next step.     Failure analysis of a gas turbine marriage bolt

    Abstract
    A gas turbine which output 18MW power exploded after 3h of ordinary operation and after 4,785 starts. The turbine's rotor had undergone repair after 77,000 operating hours. A piece was cut from the failed marriage bolt and tested using atomic absorption spectrometry in order to know the grade of the alloy. It was found that the marriage bolt is made from ASTM A193 B16 steel which is suitable. Hardness and microhardness measurement was also determined and showed that it was within the range of the specified hardness for ASTM A193 B16 steel.     The effect of temper rolling and subsequent annealing on texture development and magnetic properties of semi-processed non grain oriented electrical steel has been investigated. The result shows that 5 % temper rolling and final annealing at 850 8C resulted in strong a-fiber component. The etch-pit technique shows that strain induced boundary migration is responsible for new texture component augmentation. Vibrating sample magnetometery reveals that maximum and minimum magnetic permeability are related to rolling and transverse directions, respectively.     This research explored the corrosion effect of NaCl solution on the surface quality of AZ31 magnesium alloy. Cubic-shaped specimens were immersed in standard 3.5% NaCl solution for 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours. The size of corrosion pits, fatigue crack propagation area, and surface topology were characterized. Fatigue tests were carried out on pre-corroded AZ31 specimens under different stress amplitudes. The correlation between the corrosion time and the virtual crack size was obtained. The virtual crack size is a new parameter that can relate the corrosion to the fatigue life.     In this research, microstructure and corrosion properties of plasma nitriding and post-oxidation treated AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel have been studied. The plasma nitriding treatment was carried out at 450 C for 5 h in a D.C. plasma setup with a gas mixture of 25% N2-75% H2 followed by post-oxidation in gas mixtures of O2/H2: 1/3, 1/5, 1/9 and 1/12 for 30 min.     The effect of some inhibitors consisting of sodium nitrite (NaNO 2), sodium nitrate (NaNO 3), sodium molybdate (Na 2MoO 4), and sodium silicate (Na 2SiO 3) on the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloy 3303 (UNS A93303) in a water and ethylene glycol (C 2H 6O 2) mixture was investigated.
