Development of electrophoretically deposited hydroxyapatite coatings on anodized nanotubular TiO2 structures: Corrosion and sintering temperature

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Vol. 301 , May , 2014 , pp. 250-257 ; ISSN: 01694332 Goudarzi, M ; Batmanghelich, F ; Afshar, A ; Dolati, A ; Mortazavi, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings in and onto anodized TiO2 nanotube arrays were presented and prepared by electrophoretic deposition technique (EPD). Coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). EPD proved to be an innovative and versatile technique to coat HA on and into nanotubular structures of TiO2 with enhanced adhesion between nanotubes and HA particles provided by mechanical interlocking. After EPD of HA on TiO2 layer, samples were sintered at 400 °C, 600 °C and 800 °C for 2 h in an Ar atmosphere. Effect of EPD processing parameters on thickness of the deposits and rate of deposition was elucidated for HA coatings on the nanotubular TiO2...

Anodizing behavior and electrochemical evaluation of accumulative roll bonded Al and Al-SiC composite

    Abstract
Accumulative roll bonded (ARBed) AA1050 and Al-2 vol% SiCp (AMC) samples were anodized in an H2SO4 electrolyte to improve corrosion resistance. The SEM images revealed that the anodic oxide's morphology is significantly dependent on the microstructure of the ARBed bare samples, owing to high internal energy that accelerates Al consumption during anodizing process. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements and EIS evaluation showed that anodic oxide improves the corrosion resistance of both ARBed AA and AMC samples; however, the electrochemical behavior of the processed samples changed due to the formation of a complex oxide structure comprising of twisted pore channels and attack routes. ©...

The effect of layer number on the nanostructural ternary mixed oxide containing Ti, Ru and Ir on titanium

    , Article Advanced Materials Research ; Vol. 829 , 2014 , pp. 638-642 Goudarzi, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Titanium anodes coated with noble metal oxides are widely used in chlorate industry. In fact, these anodes are dimensionally stable. In this article, the electrochemical characteristics of the ternary oxide coating created by sol-gel on titanium, which consisted of Ti, Ru and Ir, were investigated in the number of different layers. The electrochemical properties of anodes, morphology of samples, and phase analysis were investigated respectively by cyclic voltammetry and polarization measurements, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) and XRD. The result indicated that the application of the more layer number increases the rate of chlorine evolution. Also, The morphology of the...

Characterization of sol-gel derived silver/fluor-hydroxyapatite composite coatings on titanium substrate

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 352 , 2018 , Pages 522-528 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Batebi, K ; Abbasi Khazaei, B ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A composite coating containing silver, fluoride and hydroxyapatite (Ag-FHA) was developed on titanium substrate by sol-gel method. Triethylphosphite, hydrated calcium nitrate, ammonium fluoride and silver nitrate were used respectively, as P, Ca, F and Ag precursors with a Ca:P ratio 1.67 and concentration of silver was 0.3 wt%. Coatings were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Potentiodynamic polarization measurements in simulated body fluid proved corrosion protection caused by both Ag-FHA coatings. Antibacterial activity of coatings against...
