    Solvation thermodynamics of hydroxyl and carbonyl group in supercritical CO2 by Monte Carlo simulations

    Abstract
    The Helmholtz free energy of solvation (ΔslvA) of 2-propanol and acetone in supercritical CO2 were calculated by expanded-ensemble method. For both solute molecules, ΔslvA is well represented by the polynomial equation of the third power of density and the density value correspond to the maximum stability decreases with increasing temperature. In all states under study acetone is more stable than 2-propanol. At low densities the solvation of acetone is more exothermic than 2-propanol while at high densities it come with less entropic penalty. The solvent reorganization energy is more favorable in 2-propanol case, although the role of solute-solvent interactions is dominant in both cases. ©...

    Abstract
    In this work the Ghotbi-Vera mean spherical approximation (GV-MSA) model, coupled with two different expressions for the cation-hydrated diameters, was used in predicting the mean ionic activity coefficients (MIAC) of electrolytes for a number of the mixed-solvent and mixed-salt electrolyte solutions at 25 °C. In all cases the cation diameters in solutions changed with concentration of electrolyte while the anion diameters were considered to be constant and equal to the corresponding Pauling diameters. In application of the GV-MSA model to the electrolyte systems, two different expressions were used for concentration dependency of cation-hydrated diameters, i.e., the GV-MSA1 and GV-MSA2...

    Abstract
    Various damage indexes have been introduced in recent years incorporating different parameters for estimating structural damage. Amongst these indexes, Plastic Ductility and Drift have been the center of attention of standards and building codes, like FEMA-356, because of their straightforward physical interpretation and ease of calculation. In this paper, several steel moment frames have been considered and their responses have been evaluated under a set of scaled earthquakes.     Evaluation of trichloroethylene degradation by starch supported Fe/Ni nanoparticles via response surface methodology

    Abstract
    In this study, degradation of trichloroethylene (TCE), a chlorinated hydrocarbon, using starch supported Fe/Ni nanoparticles was investigated. The scanning electron microscope images showed applying water soluble starch as a stabilizer for the Fe/Ni nanoparticles tended to reduce agglomeration and discrete particle. Also the mean particle diameter reduced from about 70 nm (unsupported Fe/Ni nanoparticle) to about 30 nm. Effects of three key independent operating parameters including initial TCE concentration (10.0-300.0 mg L-1), initial pH (4.00-10.00) and Fe0 dosage (0.10-2.00) g L-1 on TCE dechlorination efficiency in 1 hour were analysed by employing response surface methodology (RSM)....
