Abstract
The emergence of textile-based wearable sensors as light-weight portable devices to monitor desired parameters, has recently gained much interest and has led to the development of flexible electronics on non-rigid substrates. The flexible biosensors may result in improved sports performance, to monitor the desired bodies for injuries, improved clinical diagnostics and monitor biological molecules and ions in biological fluids such as saliva, sweat. In addition, they could help users with different types of disorders such as blindness. In this context, new composite and nanomaterials have been found to be promising candidates to obtain improved performance of the textile based wearable...

Abstract
In the past few years, most studies have focused on smart substances that can respond to changes in the environment, as they can be appropriately applied in different fields, including biosensing, biotechnology, and drug delivery. Here, new fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) are synthesized by Terebinth by designing a simple and single-stage hydrothermal path, which facilitates the manufacture of CDs with no need for boring artificial methods, or using poisonous/costly solvents and starting substances. The method is used to concurrently form CDs and passivate their surface, which results in inherently emitted fluorescence. The study of the structure and optical features of the resulting CDs...
Combining augmented reality and speech technologies to help deaf and hard of hearing people
, Article Proceedings - 2012 14th Symposium on Virtual and Augmented Reality, SVR 2012 ; 2012 , Pages 174-181 ; 9780769547251 (ISBN) ; Ghorshi, S ; Mortazavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Augmented Reality (AR), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech Synthesis (TTS) can be used to help people with disabilities. In this paper, we combine these technologies to make a new system for helping deaf people. This system can take the narrator's speech and convert it into a readable text and show it directly on AR display. To improve the accuracy of the system, we use Audio-Visual Speech Recognition (AVSR) as a backup for the ASR engine in noisy environments. In addition, we use the TTS system to make our system more usable for deaf people. The results of testing the system show that its accuracy is over 85 percent on average in different places. Also, the result of a...

Abstract
Recently, many researches show Augmented Reality (AR) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) can help people with disabilities. In this paper we implement an innovative system for helping deaf people by combining AR, ASR, and AVSR technologies. This system can instantly take narrator's speech and converts it into readable text and shows it directly on AR display. We show that our system's accuracy becomes over 85 percent on average, by using different ASR engines near using an AVSR engine in different noisy environments. We also show in a survey that more than 90 percent of deaf people on average need such system as assistant in portable devices, near using only text or only sign-language...
A portable culture chamber for studying the effects of hydrostatic pressure on cellular monolayers

Abstract
Hydrostatic pressure is one of the most fundamental and common mechanical stimuli in the body, playing a critical role in the homeostasis of all organ systems. Kidney function is affected by high blood pressure, namely hypertension, by the increased pressure acting on the glomerular capillary walls. This general effect of hypertension is diagnosed as a chronic disease, but underlying mechanistic causes are still not well understood. This paper reports a portable and adaptive device for studying the effects of hydrostatic pressure on a monolayer of cells. The fabricated device fits within a conventional incubation system and microscope. The effects of various pressures and durations were...

Abstract
Serious and challengeable role in markets of low power supplies for cellular phones and other small portable devices is expected for single fuel cell in future. Single fuel cell voltage level is extremely low in comparison with its output current. According to the extremely low level of the voltage, a suitable dc/dc boost converter must be used for increasing the voltage. In this paper, a model for a single fuel cell is presented and the effect of external load variation and changing of reactant pressure on cell performance is investigated. Moreover, a predictive voltage controller for boost convertor of PEM fuel cell is presented, simulated and validated using MATLAB/Simulink. The results...
