    Abstract
Thermal post-buckling behavior of a geometrically imperfect/perfect piezo-magnetic nano-scale beams made of two-phase composites is analyzed in the present paper based on nonlocal elasticity theory. For the first time, the material properties of the nanobeam are considered as functions of piezoelectric phase percentage. All previous investigations on piezo-magnetic nanobeams neglect the effect of geometrical imperfection which is very important since the nanobeams are not always ideal or perfect. The post-buckling problem of such nanobeams is solved by introducing an analytical approach to derive buckling temperatures. The present solution is simple and easily understandable. For both...

Post-buckling behavior of functionally graded circular plates under asymmetric transverse and in-plane loadings

    , Article Composite Structures ; Volume 125 , 2015 , Pages 477-488 ; 02638223 (ISSN) Fallah, F ; Vahidipoor, M. K ; Nosier, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Based on the first-order nonlinear von Karman theory, the post-buckling analysis of FG circular plates under asymmetric transverse and in-plane loadings are presented. The nonlinear governing equations are reformulated using a stress function and a boundary layer function, and solved by employing a multi-parameter perturbation technique and Fourier series method. The material properties are assumed to vary through the plate thickness according to a power-law distribution of the volume fractions of the constituents. The results are verified with the known results in the literature. The effects of loading, material properties, and boundary conditions on different response quantities are...

    Abstract
Buckling and post-buckling behaviors of geometrically imperfect annular sector plates made from nanoparticle reinforced composites have been investigated. Two types of nanoparticles are considered including graphene oxide powders (GOPs) and silicone oxide (SiO2). Nanoparticles are considered to have uniform and functionally graded distributions within the matrix and the material properties are derived using Halpin-Tsai procedure. Annular sector plate is formulated based upon thin shell theory considering geometric nonlinearity and imperfectness. After solving the governing equations via Galerkin’s technique, it is showed that the post-buckling curves of annular sector plates rely on the...

Analytical solutions for the size dependent buckling and postbuckling behavior of functionally graded micro-plates

    Abstract
In this study, the buckling and postbuckling analysis of FG micro-plates under different kinds of traction on the edges is investigated based on the modified couple stress theory. The static equilibrium equations of an FG rectangular micro-plate as well as the boundary conditions are derived using the principle of minimum total potential energy. The analytical solutions are developed for three case studies including: simply supported micro-plates subjected to uniform transverse load and biaxial tractions, clamped-simply supported micro-plates under uniform transverse load and axial traction, and simply supported micro-plates subjected to shear traction. All plate properties except the length...

Large amplitudes free vibrations and post-buckling analysis of unsymmetrically laminated composite beams on nonlinear elastic foundation

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 35, Issue 1 , 2011 , Pages 130-138 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Baghani, M ; Jafari Talookolaei, R. A ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present efficient and accurate analytical expressions for large amplitude free vibration and post-buckling analysis of unsymmetrically laminated composite beams on elastic foundation. Geometric nonlinearity is considered using Von Karman's strain-displacement relations. Besides, the elastic foundation has cubic nonlinearity with shearing layer. The nonlinear governing equation is solved by employing the variational iteration method (VIM). This study shows that the third-order approximation of the VIM leads to highly accurate solutions which are valid for a wide range of vibration amplitudes. The effects of different parameters on the ratio of nonlinear to...
