A Study on Application of ECTFE Powder Coating Technique in Nuclear Industry ‌‌‌‌

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology kholujini, Millad (Author) ; Samadfam, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
At a unit in zirconium production plant under the supervision of Soure Co. nuclear grade zirconium is produced. In the process it is required that hafnium get separated from Zirconium. Zirconium and hafnium separation are performed by nitric acid (4N) and hydrochloric acid (4N). This isolation environment is considerably corrosive and damaging for the equipment. Powder coating is one of the solutions to deal with the corrosion. To do so, electrostatic powder coating method was used for ECTFE polymer. After the coating, according to spark test, roughness analysis, thickness, elasticity and adhesion; temperature and time of the spraying and the spraying of top coating was determined. In...

Improving the Performance of the Electrostatic Precipitator Used in Cement Plant

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sabah Kadhm Alkaabi, Dhiyaa (Author) ; Sadrhosseini, Hani (Supervisor) ; Pasharavesh, Abdolreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Electrostatic precipitators are widely used in cement plants to remove impurities and dust from the exhaust gases. The filtration mechanism is based on using high intensity electric fields which first ionize the particles and then absorb them toward the collecting electrodes. The corrosion effect is one of the major problems associated with electrostatic precipitators which not only can negatively affect their operation efficiency but also decreases their life-time through breakage occurrence in the corroded electrodes. One of the commonly used methods to suppress this negative effect and increase the total working hours of the device is to cut the bottom part of the first collecting plate...

Protection of titanium metal by nanohydroxyapatite coating with zirconia and alumina second phases

    , Article Protection of Metals and Physical Chemistry of Surfaces ; Volume 48, Issue 6 , 2012 , Pages 688-691 ; 20702051 (ISSN) Family, R ; Solati Hashjin, M ; Nik, S. N ; Nemati, A ; Sharif Universty of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this study hydroxyapatite (HA)/zirconia/alumina composite coatings on titanium metal was carried out using Sol-Gel dip coating and calcination process. Hydroxyapatite-Alumina-Zirconia sol, coated samples in three processes by changing final sol stirring time, aging time, calcination temperature of synthesized powder and prepared coating and rate of coating. Some parts of prepared sol were also synthesized and became powder in all three processes. Scanning electron microscopy was used to estimate the particle size of the surface and for morphological analysis. The functional group and crystallization characteristics of the powders were analyzed using (FTIR) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD)....

    Abstract
Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is one of the promising candidates for clean energy production. Due to the high operating temperature of SOFCs, a protective coating is commonly applied on the surface of interconnects to prevent oxidation. In this study, electrophoretic deposition was employed to prepare a manganese-cobalt spinel coating on ferritic stainless steel (AISISAE430) substrates. Nanostructured MnCo2O4 powder with an average crystallite size of 60nm was utilized and the sintering behavior of the coatings at different temperatures was studied. Non-isothermal and isothermal sintering behavior of the powder were examined by employing a sensitive dilatometer. Master sintering curve of the...

Investigation on the wear properties of Ti/TiC/TiN composite coatings prepared by powder cored wires through TIG method at nitrogen atmosphere on titanium substrate

    Abstract
In this present study, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding and powder filled cored wires with nitrogen shielding gas were utilized to produce TiC and TiN surface composite coatings on the titanium (Ti) sheet substrate. The TIG procedure was done at same welding parameters for all of prepared samples. Phase analysis and microstructures were done by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The obtained results from XRD and EDS demonstrated that the presence of crystalline phases of TiC, TiN and Ti. SEM and OM exhibited formation of the spherical and dendritic TiC particles in a martensitic matrix and also,...

Fabrication of aluminum nitride coatings by electrophoretic deposition: Effect of particle size on deposition and drying behavior

    , Article Ceramics International ; Volume 37, Issue 1 , 2011 , Pages 313-319 ; 02728842 (ISSN) Abdoli, H ; Zarabian, M ; Alizadeh, P ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Electrophoretic technique was used to deposit micro- and nano-sized aluminum nitride coatings on stainless steel surfaces by using a well-dispersed stable suspension produced by addition of AlN powder plus a small amount of iodine to ethanol. Parabolic regime governed the deposition. Electrophoretic deposition for 240 s at 100 V resulted in formation of a uniformly dense film on the top, but a porous inhomogeneous layer at the bottom. This was attributed to fast deposition of coarse particles and/or agglomerates at large electric fields. After drying, micro-sized particles led to a uniform crack-free interface while nano-particles resulted in fragmented non-cohesive layers. Weight loss...
