    Abstract
Forced convective of water in horizontal tubes with conical tube inserts has been studied experimentally. The transient flow regime has been used for the tests. Experimental results are validated with existing well established correlation. The turbulators were placed in two different arrangements: converging conical ring, referred to as CR array and diverging conical ring, DR array. Two correlations for the Nusselt number based on the experiment are introduced for practical use. It is found that the insertion of turbulators has enhanced the Nusselt number for the DR arrangement up to 521%, and for the CR arrangement up to 355%, although using the turbulators cause a significant increase in...

Design and development of an effective low-cost robotic cameraman for laparoscopic surgery: RoboLens

    Abstract
A robotic system was designed and developed to perform the camera handling task during laparoscopic surgery. The system employs an effective low cost mechanism, with a minimum number of actuated DOFs, enabling spherical movement around a remote centre of motion positioned at the the insertion point of the laparoscopic stem. Kinematic analysis showed a high manipulability measure for the system, with the left/right movements directly governed by rotation of the first rotary actuator, and zoom and up/down movements by the simultaneous motions of the linear and second rotary actuators. A prototype of the robot was developed for practical use in an operating room environment. Hands-free operator...

Bio-oxidation of ferrous ions by Acidithioobacillus ferrooxidans in amonolithic bioreactor

    Abstract
Background: The bio-oxidation of ferrous iron is a potential industrial process in the regeneration of ferric iron and the removal of H2S in combustible gases. Bio-oxidation of ferrous iron may be an alternative method of producing ferric sulfate, which is a reagent used for removal of H2S from biogas, tail gas and in the pulp and paper industry. For practical use of this process, this study evaluated the optimal pH and initial ferric concentration. pH control looks like a key factor as it acts both on growth rate and on solubility ofmaterials in the system. Results: Process variables such as pH and amount of initial ferrous ions on oxidation by A. ferrooxidans and the effects of process...
