    , Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and Applications ; Vol. 228, issue. 1 , 2014 , p. 34-44 Mirjalili, A ; Jamshidi Aval, H ; Serajzadeh, S ; Kokabi, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Residual stresses, local mechanical properties, and microstructural evolution in terms of grain structures and precipitation distribution have been studied in friction stir welding of AA2017 in T4 and T6 conditions. Microstructural studies including optical and electron microscopy were made to characterize the developed microstructures in different zones of the weldment. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction technique and digital image correlation technique were also utilized to assess residual stress and mechanical properties of the welded alloy. The results show that coarsening of semi-coherent plate-shaped precipitates and formation of incoherent spherical-shaped particles occur in heat affected...

An investigation into the microstructure of friction-stir welded and artificially aged AA2017

    Abstract
Microstructural changes in friction-stir welding (FSW) of artificially aged AA2017 were investigated. First, FSW was performed with rotational and linear speeds of 800 rpm and 40 mm/min, respectively. Then, microstructural studies by means of optical metallography and electron microscopy were conducted in different regions of the welded plates. Hardness testing was also employed to determine local strength and subsequent natural aging progress after welding. The results indicate that the considerable hardness degradation occurs in the thermo-mechanically affected zone owing to coarsening of semi-coherent precipitates. Grain refinement also takes place in the weld nugget as a result of...

A study on microstructures and residual stress distributions in dissimilar friction-stir welding of AA5086-AA6061

    Abstract
Dissimilar friction stir welds of aluminum alloys AA5086 in annealed and AA6061 in T6 temper conditions were investigated in terms of residual stress, grain structure and precipitation distribution in different zones of the welded joints. Optical metallography and transmission electron microscopy were used to characterize microstructures of different zones of the welds. In addition, residual stress profile and local mechanical properties of different zones were evaluated employing X-ray diffraction method and digital image correlation technique. It was found that softening in the AA6061-T6 side occurs in regions with weld peak temperature higher than 300 °C. The micro-hardness profile...

Investigating the temporal and spatial variations of water consumption in Urmia Lake River Basin considering the climate and anthropogenic effects on the agriculture in the basin

    Abstract
Urmia Lake River Basin (ULRB) is one of the most important habitats in the world and one of the major agricultural regions in Iran. On average, the ratio of irrigation to evapotranspiration in this basin is more than 73%. Investigating the irrigation water requirement pattern changes and the spatial distribution of evapotranspiration during the basin development period on a regional scale play important roles in understanding the basin situation. In this study, the actual evapotranspiration has been estimated by SEBAL model. By estimating the precipitation distribution in the basin, the agricultural irrigation water requirement pattern has been calculated using the land use map in 1995, 2010...
