Using independent component analysis to monitor 2-D geometric specifications

    , Article Quality and Reliability Engineering International ; Volume 33, Issue 8 , 2017 , Pages 2075-2087 ; 07488017 (ISSN) Fathizadan, S ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Noorossana, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Functional data and profiles are characterized by complex relationships between a response and several predictor variables. Fortunately, statistical process control methods provide a solid ground for monitoring the stability of these relationships over time. This study focuses on the monitoring of 2-dimensional geometric specifications. Although the existing approaches deploy regression models with spatial autoregressive error terms combined with control charts to monitor the parameters, they are designed based on some idealistic assumptions that can be easily violated in practice. In this paper, the independent component analysis (ICA) is used in combination with a statistical process...

A data mining approach to compressive strength of CFRP-confined concrete cylinders

    Abstract
In this paper, compressive strength of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) confined concrete cylinders is formulated using a hybrid method coupling genetic programming (GP) and simulated annealing (SA), called GP/SA, and a robust variant of GP, namely multi expression programming (MEP). Straightforward GP/SA and MEP-based prediction equations are derived for the compressive strength of CFRP-wrapped concrete cylinders. The models are constructed using two sets of predictor variables. The first set comprises diameter of concrete cylinder, unconfined concrete strength, tensile strength of CFRP laminate, and total thickness of CFRP layer. The most widely used parameters of unconfined concrete...

    Abstract
Background: cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women worldwide and its management remains challenging and complex. As Cytochrome4Z1 (CYP4Z1) is overex-pressed in many tumours, its expression in cervical cancer is unknown. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate CYP4Z1 expression in cervical cancers. Methods: CYP4Z1 expression was immunohistochemically assessed in 100 cases of cervical cancers along with ten normal cervix tissues, and the enzyme’s relationship to several clinicopathological features and survival was explored. Results: CYP4Z1 was strongly expressed in 55% of cervical cancer patients. Normal cervix samples were negative for CYP4Z1 expression....
