Reliability and cost model of P.M. in a component of an electrical distribution system considering ageing mechanism

, Article International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering ; Vol. 4, Issue. 2 , 2014 , pp. 193-199 Afshar, S ; Fotuhi firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Application of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) in a system results in a decrease in component failure rates and as such improvement in the system reliability. One of the major subjects of the RCM is focused on the Online and Offline Preventive Maintenance (OPM and FPM which together will be denoted by OFPM) of the components which repairing the component needs or doesn't need to stop the mission carrying out by it. The RCM is classified as a preventive maintenance policy and has significant contribution in practical applications. However, little research has been devoted to modeling the online and offline Preventive Maintenance. This research assumes that the component failure rate...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery ; Volume 28, Issue 2 , 2013 , Pages 761-770 ; 08858977 (ISSN) Dehghanian, P ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Aminifar, F ; Billinton, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Although reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) has proven its noticeable merits in many industries, has not been yet furnished with efficient analytical methods in the power engineering context. The first of this two-paper set presents a practical framework by which the RCM procedure can be implemented in power distribution systems. The proposed algorithm consists of three main stages. The prerequisites of the analysis are outlined in the first stage. In the second stage, an approach is developed to identify the network's critical components, from the reliability point of view. Having practically modeled the components' failure rates, an efficient cost/benefit evaluation approach is then...

    Abstract
Security constrained Preventive Maintenance (PM) scheduling is addressed as a crucial issue especially coping with new challenges of smart grids. Under the smart grid environment, Demand Response Resources (DRRs) are considered as virtual power plants in energy policy decisions which affect the controllability of power system ranging from short-term to long-term. Here, DRRs are regarded as a virtual resource of capacity reserve acquisition. Furthermore, under new environment, multifarious objectives will be imposed to PM scheduling which can be replicated into a single objective problem via a weighted approach with consideration of arbitrary weighting coefficients. In this paper, a new...

Systematic Planned (Preventive) Maintenance in Hospitals And Medical Centers of Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faghihi, Farshid (Author) ; Haji, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on the latest statistical figures, more than 50 billion Rials worth of medical equipment exists in Iran’s medical centers. In spite of this, Breakdown maintenance is used in all hospitals, which means that the equipment is utilized as long as it is not out of order and only in such a situation, i.e. a breakdown, the necessary repair operation is conducted on the equipment. In fact, no maintenance is carried out to prevent a breakdown, while the “prevention from breakdown” concept has long been introduced in the majority of industries in many countries including Iran and its positive impacts are undisputable. This thesis aims at proposing a solution for the implementation of a “planned...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kianfar, Azadeh (Author) ; Kianfar, Fereydoon (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reliability Centered maintenance (RCM) is a systematic approach for designing preventive maintenance program for plants. Quality Function Deployment (QFD), which is a well known tool of Total Quality Management, is also a systematic and disciplined approach for designing products and services. In QFD the objective is to satisfy the requirements of the customers of the product or service with limited resources. Now if we consider the preventive maintenance program that RCM specifies for a plant as a service and define the customer requirements for this service to be preserving the functions of the plant we can use QFD for maintenance via RCM. By doing this all the proven advantages of QFD...

    Abstract
This paper addresses the midterm preventive maintenance outage scheduling problem of thermal generating units which is becoming increasingly important due to the aging of power generation fleet. In this context, a novel midterm preventive maintenance outage scheduler is proposed based on decision tree and mixed integer linear formation which explicitly considers the thermal units aging momentum in terms of failure rate. This allows the system operators to determine the thermal units' maintenance outage window based on the cost/benefit analysis of preventive maintenance tasks while optimizing the time interval between consecutive maintenance tasks. Additionally, the division of the year-long...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sabouhi, Hamed (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Ali (Supervisor) ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Power generation stations, which are commonly called power plants, are treated as the core module of power systems and are in charge of producing power to be transmitted and distributed to the end consumers. As the beating heart of power industry, power plants need to be available and reliable all the time and so do their constituent components since the need for reliable electricity, nowadays, is ever increasingly highlighted. The reason lies in the rapid jump of population growth in one hand and the incredible amount of damages as a consequence to the power interruptions due to the power plant component outages, if happened, on the other one. So, power plants have to be kept within a...

Using Decentralized Approach in Power Plants Preventive Maintenance Scheduling Problem

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jabbari, Arman (Author) ; Modarres Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this paper, a new method for handling power plants preventive maintenance scheduling problem is proposed in which a decentralized framework is applied in order to help the electricity markets to prevent data sharing. The new approach is the extension of alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) along with several heuristics and refinements to omit the effect of non-convexity of the problem. Since, the new methodmerely needs minimal information exchange, it is completely practical. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, a case study based on generating system of Iran is presented. It is shown that the proposed model obtains acceptable results

    Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) is a common phenomenon which occurs in insulation of high voltage equipments, such as; transformers and has a damaging effect on the insulation. If data mining techniques be used to find specifications and features of different types of partial discharges in power transformers, one can monitor the insulation condition of such equipment online and continuously. Those results can be employed to develop preventive measures more exactly and consequently the maintenance would require less time and cost for electric utility and improve the life time expectancy of the transformers. In this paper experiments are set up to create models for some types of PD that occurs in Power...
