Performance Analysis of Thermoacoustic Prime Mover

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghizadeh, Zahra (Author) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Traveling wave thermoacoustic prime mover is studied in this project. For this purpose, based on one dimensional thermoacoustic equations, thermoacoustic flow is modeled in each segment of thermoacoustic systems. Since regenerator is the most important segment in a traveling wave thermoacoustic prime mover, modeling of the flow in regenerator is considered as the primary motivation for this research. In order to model the thermoacoustic engines, governing 1D relations are simplified and developed. Moreover, to solve equations in regenerator, tortuous geometry of regenerator is approximated with the stack consisting of circular pores. Therefore, in this research stack relations has been used...

Load pickup during power system restoration

    , Article Series on Energy and Power Systems, 6 September 2010 through 8 September 2010, Gaborone ; 2010 , Pages 161-164 ; 14827891 (ISSN) ; 9780889868755 (ISBN) Nourizadeh, S ; Yari, V ; Ranjbar, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The first control action in power system restoration concerns the generation restart. In the initial phase of restoration, operators are often concerned with load pickup problems. One of the important problems during load pickup is keeping frequency response in allowable range. The aim of this paper is to determine the best sequence of load pickup by hydro and steam units during power system restoration based on frequency response of prime movers. Hydro power plants and combustion turbine units have the capability of black start operation and can be used for early stages of power system restoration. This paper considers hydro power plants for evaluating the stability and frequency response...

    Abstract
In this research heating, cooling and electrical demands of a residential tower are evaluated for Iran various weather conditions. For this purpose, several cities are selected as the representative of the specific weather conditions. To meet the cooling demand, desiccant cooling system plus alternative systems are applied. To analyze desiccant wheel, outlet humidity and temperature have been modeled. Also, the effect of rotational speed and regeneration temperature on entropy generation of the desiccant wheel has been studied based on the obtained results. It is deduced that the entropy generation may be increased by increasing the regeneration temperature and the rotational speed. To...

    Abstract
In modeling and designing micro combined heat and power cycle most important point is recognition of how the cycle operates based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics simultaneously. Analyzing data obtained from thermodynamic analysis employed to optimize MCHP cycle. The data obtained from prime mover optimization has been used for basic stimulus cycle. Assumptions considered for prime mover optimization has been improved, for example in making optimum operation condition by using genetic algorithms constant pressure combustion chamber was considered. The exact value of downstream and upstream pressure changes in the combustion chamber reaction has been obtained. After extraction...

Energy, exergy and thermoeconomic analysis of a combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) system with gas turbine prime mover

    , Article International Journal of Energy Research ; Volume 35, Issue 8 , June , 2011 , Pages 697-709 ; 0363907X (ISSN) Ghaebi, H ; Amidpour, M ; Karimkashi, S ; Rezayan, O ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper energy, exergy and thermoeconomic analysis of a combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) system has been performed. Applying the first and second laws of thermodynamics and economic analysis, simultaneously, has made a powerful tool for the analysis of energy systems such as CCHP systems. The system integrates air compressor, combustion chamber, gas turbine, dual pressure heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and absorption chiller to produce cooling, heating and power. In fact, the first and second laws of thermodynamics are combined with thermoeconomic approaches. Next, computational analysis is performed to investigate the effects of below items on the fuel consumption,...
